 | First recorded in the Domesday Book as "Elbretone", today Albright Hussey retains all the charm and character of its history. In 1292 to avoid confusion with other place names similar to "Albrighton" the name "Hussey" was added after the family who occupied it. The Hussey family remained here until the 17th Century, and the estate passed to the Corbets in 1634. During this period Albright Hussey experienced a rich history. |
 | The battle of Shrewsbury was fought on nearby fields in 1403 when Henry IV defeated Henry Hotspur, and during the Civil War, the Albright Hussey was used to garrison the Royalist troops of Charles I. In 1741 the estate was merged with that of Sundorne, the whole passing to the Rev Dryden Piggott of Edmond in 1864. It was sold in 1915 and Albright Hussey was then used as a farmhouse until 1968 when it was converted into a restaurant and into a Shropshire premiere hotel in 1990. |
| The present owners, Mr and Mrs Franco Subbiani, purchased Albright Hussey in March 1988. With their son Paul, they have personally supervised the restoration programme paying meticulous attention to every detail of this historic house, making it one of the finest hotels in the area. | The present house, dating back to Tudor times, mirrors a wealth of history. Rebuilt in 1524, the timber framed section is the earliest part, the brick and stone wing being added by 1560. Inside a wealth of oak panelling, huge open fireplaces and original moulded beams create a comfortable and welcoming ambience. |
