Alton has also achieved fame amongst those interested in supernatural phenomenon, as it is considered to be one of the most haunted villages in Staffordshire, with many ghostly sightings situated in most of the key areas, including Alton Towers. The main figure to have been spotted is a figure riding a horse whilst wearing a top hat, and sights have been reported in many different areas, including fields and back streets.
