E-mail Establishment The Athenaeum Lodge is a charming Georgian Grade II Listed Building, ideally situated in the heart of the city on the famous Plymouth Hoe (200 metres away) and near the prestigious Barbican area. The Lodge is a five-minute walk from both the City's pleasant traffic free shopping centre and the Plymouth Sound, one of the most spectacular natural harbours in the world.
The Athenaeum Lodge is completely non-smoking with Private Parking. We have a ground floor room suitable for those who find it difficult to climb stairs. All rooms are furnished to a very high standard and offer the quality of service and hygiene only found in an English Tourist Board Four Diamond establishment. For the business person and those who like to keep in touch, we have a Wireless Internet connection that can be used free of charge.
We are less than five minutes walk from the Theatre Royal, Plymouth Pavillions and the ABC cinema.
The University and Coach Station are about 10 minutes walk with the Rail Station a short taxi ride awayFor those travelling by Brittany Ferries the Athenaeum Lodge is less than 5 minutes by car.
The Athenaeum Lodge has gained an entry in the prestigious "The Which? Guide to Good Hotels 2005", being the only establishment in Plymouth to have done so. Our staff and we staff have worked very hard to achieve this and it is our intention to continue to maintain this high standard to ensure that all our guests enjoy their stay with us. We hope that our guests will take the opportunity to experience all that the City of Plymouth has to offer and the wonderful surrounding countryside of Devon and Cornwall.
Driving Instructions
From the A38 follow the city centre signs for 2 3/4 miles, At this point you will need to be in the left hand lane.
You will approach a set of traffic lights with a left fork marked "THE BARBICAN-THE HOE-THE SEAFRONT"
Take this fork and keep on the road until you come to a set of traffic lights with a pub called THE WALRUS on your left.
Turn Left here, we are at the top of the road, on the right hand side.
Bedrooms
All our rooms are furnished to a high standard, all including Colour Televisions, Tea & Coffee making facilities, Hairdryer, most of our rooms are also en-suite.
One of our rooms caters for visitors with walking difficulties ideally situated on the ground floor.
Dining Room
Each morning, in our breakfast room you will be served with a large choice of cereals, fruit juice, fruits and yoghurt. Then this can be followed by freshly cooked traditional breakfast followed by as much tea or fresh percolated coffee and toast as you would like. After this you can probably give lunch a miss!
Internet Access
For the business person and those who like to keep in touch, we have an broadband Internet connection that can be used free of charge, giving you the ability to keep up with your E-mails.
Sitting in the heart of the Hoe, Athenaeum Lodge is set in an ideal location for any visitor to Plymouth. Within easy reach of all facilities enjoying a fantastic location for Business visitors and Holidays alike. All within a short walk you can find yourself enjoying fantastic views over the sea, the prestigious Barbican area or the hub of Plymouth city centre.
Once here you will find all the information on local activities and leisure pursuits in our information rack located in the dinning room. Plymouth its self is a thriving city boasting many fantastic days & nights all year round.
Great water activities including the jewel in the crown of the UK powerboat racing calendar, the World Powerboat Championship.
You might also be able to enjoy another Plymouths great annual public entertainment. The British Fireworks Championships is a great event with live music and entertainment and some fantastic views over the lights and city we are close to all the best views.
We are also within walking distance of lots of Plymouths history and historic sites. Sir Francis Drake statue stands proudly on Plymouth Hoe looking out to sea and guarding the City. Sea lovers can take luxury pleasure cruises around Plymouth Sound and up the River Tamar taking in breath taking views along the way.
See Royal Naval Vessels close by as you sail past the Plymouth Naval Dockyards at Devonport and sail right under Isambard Kindom Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge. Theatre lovers can enjoy great plays at the Theatre Royal, For those of you who visit by car just a short drive out of the busy City centre of Plymouth and you will find yourself in the wilderness of Dartmoor National Park or You might want to visit the National Marine Aquarium another great day out for any age.
