Aviemore, which is called An Aghaidh Mhor in the Scottish version of the Gaelic language, is both a town and a tourist resort, that is located at the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands part of Scotland. Aviemore is located at the Highland council area, and it started as an exclave of the Moray country, but changed during the 1890s.
Aviemore is a major tourist resort due to its skiing locations, which started operating as early as Chairlift started operating - back in the 1960s. The skiing resort is also near the freely grazing reindeer herd, which is located at Clen More, so it serves as a point of attraction for people who are interested in the local wildlife and the local scenery.

Another point of interest includes the Aviemore Centre, which is located where a golf course and a hotel - the Aviemore Hotel, were located at. The hotel was destroyed by a fire back in the 1950s, and was replaced during the 1960s with the Aviemore Centre, which opened its doors in 1966. The Aviemore Centre is known locally as simply The Centre, and is a major Scottish tourists' destination, and is famous for being a place often visited by the royal family. The Aviemore center is also the place in which several TV shows were filmed, and it has an international standard ice skating rink as well as a curling rink, and while visiting it you can watch the Aviemore Blackhawks and the Aviemore Blues hockey teams play.
The center offers various activities for both locals and visitors, grown-ups and children, and is a great way to keep in shape during your vacation, but still relaxing. You might want to take the kids and family to swimming in its 25 meter swimming pool, or to a Santa Claus theme park that is open 365 days of the year, and is called the Santa Claus Land.

While in Aviemore you might also want to watch the local teams play - such as the teams playing in the Strathspey and Badenoch Welfare FA league, which are the Aviemore Thistle and the RBL Aviemore, which play locally in the Aviemore public park.
