Situated on the first floor with views over the market place and courtyard, the restaurant provides excellent service to both residents and non-residents and offers a very high standard of cuisine with sophisticated A La Carte and comprehensive Table d'hôte menus.

The restaurant is open each day for diners seeking a leisurely meal in comfortable surroundings or business people requiring quiet and discreet surroundings with excellent food and fine wines.

At the end of the day the candlelit atmosphere of the restaurant provides the perfect setting for an intimate dinner party.

The Lounge Bar offers a choice of traditional and keg bitters including a full bar service and provides a wide range of freshly cooked bar meals and snacks.

Guests may take their ease in the elegantly furnished lounge and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and comfort of the log fire during the cooler months of the year. Drinks are readily available from the Cocktail Bar within the lounge.

Map

The countryside of South Oxfordshire and the Vale of the White Horse provides a wealth of interesting places to explore, from the famous Ridgeway National Trail, stretching through some of the best scenery in South Central England, to the 'Dreaming Spires' of Oxford's historic university buildings and the majestic grandeur of Blenheim Palace.

Contact Wantage Tourism for details of these and other attractions.

Wantage itself was the birthplace of Alfred the Great, whose statue stands in the Market Place surrounded by a variety of half timbered buildings of 16th Century origin to the Georgian age such as the Bear itself reconstructed on the brick vaults of a much earlier hostelry.

Nearby, Lambourn, the home of the English horse racing community, provides a perfect backdrop of English countryside to the thundering hooves of thoroughbreds training in the early morning mists.
