Further Details

Hungerford is ideally situated in the centre of Southern England and is just one hour from London Heathrow Airport. London itself is just another few miles further by road or can be reached easily by frequent trains from Hungerford railway station.

For the tourist we could not be better placed for sight seeing with only one hour's drive or so! If going west, do not miss the Standing Stones of Avebury, (older and bigger than Stonehenge) and Laycock Abbey, (where photography was invented) in the National Trust village of Laycock, where so many period films have been set. A little further on takes you to Bath and its Roman Baths, and the large city of Bristol is a few miles extra. To the southwest is Stonehenge itself, and historic Salisbury with its Cathedral and the coast at Bournemouth. To the South is Winchester, another city with a magnificent Cathedral and the large port of Southampton.

To the North are The Cotswolds, Stratford upon Avon - the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and Oxford with all the Colleges that make up that world famous University. Go east to the Queen's home of Windsor Castle, with Eton College just across the Thames there. A little further to the east you can see Hampton Court Palace, and close by, Kew Gardens with its wonderful plants from all over the world. So much to see!
