Other accommodation near Betws-y-Coed

Betws-y-Coed that is located in Conwy is both a village and a community, whose name stems from the Welsh language meaning "prayer house in the wood". Betws-y-Coed is located in the Conwy valley in the Conwy County Borough in Wales and has a population of about 540 people. The name Betws (sometimes spelled Bettws) is thought to have come from the Anglo-Saxon Old English language, which was "bed-hus" and meant bead-house. A bead-house is a house of prayrs or an oratory. The name Betus has been used as early as 1254.

Betws-y-Coed is located in the national park of Snowdonia and is located in a valley that is near the Conwy river and the Llugwy and Lledr rivers. Betws-y-Coed, like its name suggests, has been established around a monastery that has been built in that location in the late part of the sixth century. Betws-y-Coed is known to have grown over the years and had a local lead mining community, and the village developed even more way back in 1815 when a road was built leading to it and connecting it with other locations.

Betws-y-Coed is considered a major coaching center that is located between Crowen which is located in the east, and between Capel Curig which is located in the west. Betws-y-Coed is located in the Irish Mail route which goes from London up to Holyhead and is the cause of the improvement in the roads that are located to the south of the Blaenau Ffestiniog, as well as for the improvement in infrastructure in both Llanrwst and Conwy. Besides the improvement in the roads to Betws-y-Coed and the roads surrounding it, way back in the year 1868 the Betws-y-Coed railway station was constructed and was the arrival of the first railway line from the Llandudno Junction railway station and was a major cause for the increase in population.

While in the Betws-y-Coed village you can go watch the local football team play in the large "village green" which is available, and is bordering with the A5 trunk road as well with local buildings that date back to the 19th century which you can go and see if you want to learn about the local architecture.

If you prefer to have a good time while visiting Betws-y-Coed, instead of learning about the local culture and architecture, you can enjoy the local hotels and shops as well as from the local parish church called the Church of St. Mary, which was built where a former cockpit and fairground stood.

The St. Mary parish church was built as early as the year 1873 and is considered to be a relatively young age, if you consider the other churches in the area. In the church you can enjoy the wide variety of stones as well as the bell tower which is square in design, and was completed back in 1907. The church underwent further renovations in the 1980s.
