Lilies Restaurant offers a cosy and well-appointed environment in which to enjoy a superb meal at an affordable price. Since Roman times, the white flower of the Lwum candidum, or Madonna Lily, has been a symbol of Purity. We have adopted this flower as our emblem because we endeavour to use pure ingredients to create pure pleasure. The restaurant is a no-smoking area.

We aim to use the highest quality fresh produce available to us, and all food is cooked and prepared to order. The menu has been created with great care and skill to tempt and satisfy all tastes and appetites - a cornucopia of traditional and vegetarian options. Whatever mood you are in, there will-be a dish that matches it. Your waiter or waitress will be glad to advise you, especially if you have any particular needs or requests.

The wines on our wine list and fine wine list have been thoughtfully chosen for quality and variety. Clear tasting notes describe the wines and provide suggestions for great food and wine partnerships.

RELAXING IN THE BAR

For those who wish to eat in the more informal atmosphere of the bar, we have an extremely wide range of meals and snacks, from baguettes to the finest beef, from pasta to mussels. Children's portions are also available. As in the restaurant, our twin aims are consistent quality and value for money. Because we are a free house, we are able to offer 6 or 7 cask ales, and there's an excellent selection of wines by the glass.

WEDDINGS AND CONFERENCES

Our oak-beamed conference room provides a refreshingly different venue for your business meeting or seminar and is also a very popular choice for private parties and other social functions. We specialise in tailor-made wedding receptions. Please ask for further details.

HISTORY OF THE BOWL INN

Nestling on the southeastern edge of the Severn Vale in the village of Lower Almondsbury, The Bowl Inn derives its name from the shape of the land surrounding the Severn Estuary, which can be seen from the inn. Parts of this picturesque, whitewashed stone inn were originally the three cottages erected in 1146 to house the monks building the adjacent church of St Mary the Virgin. During subsequent centuries, the tunnels between these cottages, the church and priory (now a farmhouse) were created to afford protection against marauding foreign invaders. The present building became a licensed inn in 1550, and it was used by James ll.'s sheriffs during the latter half of the seventeenth century to try supporters of the Duke of Monmouth.

IDEAL LOCATION

The Bowl Inn is ideally located, enjoying the peace and quiet of a small village and yet easily accessible from the M4 and M5. It is within easy reach of the historic port of Bristol, the Georgian City of Bath, with its impressive Roman baths, and the fascinating Wildfowl Reserve at Slimbridge. In addition, the beautiful Wye Valley, the Forest of Dean and Tintern Abbey lie just over the majestic Severn Bridge into South Wales.
