| Brighthouse Farm is the perfect place to relax and a superb base from which to enjoy the surrounding countryside, made famous by East Anglian artists such as John Constable who captured the enormous blue skies and golden cornfields. Close by are many pubs and restaurants offering fine hospitality and there are lots of historic towns and villages for guests to explore. Bury St. Edmunds, with its twice weekly market and famous gardens set among the ruins of a Benedictine Abbey, also has museums, a theatre and cinema. The market town of Sudbury is still renowned for its silk weaving and as the birthplace of the artist Thomas Gainsborough, whose paintings can be seen in his house which is now a gallery. Wealth from the wool industry helped establish delightful villages like Lavenham, where charming timber framed houses draw visitors from all over the world. Kersey is another picturesque place featured in many calendars. To the south is the handsome village of Long Melford with two Elizabethan stately homes, and one of several local centres for antiques. Further afield is the unspoilt Constable Country and the Dedham Vale. |
