Experience the very best that Nottinghamshire can offer with a visit to "Browns" Award Winning Bed and Breakfast, situated in the picturesque hamlet of Holbeck, which is a tiny rural hamlet of only 12 houses, most of which were built at around the same time as The Old Orchard Cottagein 1730. It is situated on the Welbeck Country Estate, which is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Portland, in the Dukeries Area of North Nottinghamshire, and is seven miles from Sherwood Forest and 24 miles north of Nottingham City.

Approaching along a winding country lane, visitors will be enchanted by the iron gate naming "The Old Orchard Cottage", and a glimpse of the Grade II listed buildings, which date from 1730.

Entering the drive and crossing the shallow ford, which joins the two ponds surrounded by seasonal flora and rippled by a waterfall, guests will find themselves surrounded by a glorious English cottage garden.

Parking near the sundial, visitors will step out of their vehicle to scores of perennial plants, which encircle the garden and encase the three beautiful garden lodges, set alongside the cottage, each lodge faces onto the terrace.

Guest will find the colours of the garden seductive, whatever the season, and can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the exquisite surroundings. If you stay at Browns in the early spring or summer, you could hear the Cukoo, they have returned every year and sing from early morning till late at night.

The Brown family, Robin, Joan and Carly, provide a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome, making guests feel relaxed and at ease with their surroundings.

The garden terrace is adjacent to each lodge, where guests can while away the time, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, and on warm summer evenings candle lanterns create a relaxing atmopshere.

"Browns" is all that is typical of rural England, and all that is superior in experience.

The three en-suite garden lodges are stylishly decorated to high standards, three diffently styled four poster beds, with wonderful finishing touches including fresh flowers.

Lodge number 3 has a king size four poster bed, and Lodge number 2 with a super king size four poster bed, is the largest of the three and has wonderful views over the garden. Both of these two rooms have a bath tub and shower.

Lodge Number1 has an intimate atmosphere, is well equipped and has a double four-poster bed and shower room.

Each en suite centrally heated lodge offers maximum privacy, colour television, dvd/cd player, radio, hairdryer and hospitality tray.For the cold evenings there is a log effect stove in each lodge, for extra warmth. In the main cottage the telephone and internet access are available for a small charge.


Beautiful Breakfasts


Breakfasts at "Browns" is served in the elegant dining room of the cottage overlooking the garden, where many wild birds and an occasional pheasant complete the peaceful setting.

In keeping with the exquisite décor of the lodges, the dining room is furnished in the Regency style with antique furniture, the mahogany tables are set with white bone china and fresh flowers provide the finishing touches.

Then, in these wonderful surroundings, guests can make their choice from the extensively gourmet breakfast menu. Visitors can choose from the award winning Old Orchard Breakfast a fine example of a full English breakfast, the VermontBreakfast, for a taste of New England, (bacon, French toast and maple syrup), or the Continental Breakfast of hot cheese and bacon croissants. Alternatively, there's smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, smoked haddock, or kippers, or Simply Eggs, served any way you like them with a selection of toast.

All of the "Browns" Breakfasts are served with freshly chilled orange juice, a selection of cereals and seasonal fruits, and of course freshly ground coffee and a selection of teas. With these delicious menus, guests may even want to extend their stay to sample all of the options.

From A1: (8 miles)
Take the A57 sign-posted for Worksop, Sheffield (Worksop by-pass). On the third roundabout take the A60 for Mansfield. After approximately 3 miles look for signs for the Dukeries Garden Centre and a wooden bus shelter on the right. Look on the right for the "Browns" Bed and Breakfast sign and right turning for Holbeck. Take this right turn, travel for half a mile and discover our stone cottage on the right.

From M1. Junction 30: (6 miles)
Take A616 sign-posed for Newark, go through Clowne and Creswell look for "Browns" Bed and Breakfast sign on your left just before crossroads. Turn left at the crossroads for Holbeck and Worksop, and discover our stone cottage on your left after half a mile.

From Cuckney: (2 ½ miles)
From the crossroads, take the A60 north for Worksop and travel for 11/4 miles. Stay on the A60 past the first sign for Holbeck on your left and the left turn sign for Holbeck Woodhouse. Continue for ¾ of a mile and you will see the sign for "Browns" Bed and Breakfast on your left just before the left turn for Holbeck. Turn left here and travel for half a mile and discover our stone cottage on the right.

Browns Accessibility Statement.

Browns is committed to ensure an appropriate accommodation service for prospective guests with disabilities. We have NAS Mobility Level 1, and lodge number two, has been designed for that level of mobility, and we are trying to make our home as accessible as we can. We welcome any enquires from guests with disabilities so we can discuss their needs and all reasonable attempts will be made to meet these.

General Information.

2. The ground floor entrance and dining room are level, with one step into lodge number three.
3. The garden is easily accessible, with a bridge over the ford.

Browns Environmental Statement.

We are privileged to be living in the Dukeries and Sherwood Forest area of Nottinghamshire and try to run Browns in a way that has minimal effect upon our environment.

To this end we adopt the following practices.

1. An on-going programme to replace the bulbs in all lighting fixtures with low energy types.
2. Use of small low wattage kettles on hospitality trays.
3. Notices in each bathroom encourage guests to think about how often they require fresh towels.
4. "A" rated electrical appliances replace older versions where possible.
5. Condensing boiler for heating the cottage.
6. Night storage heaters, using economy electricity during the night, and log effect electric stoves for added heat if needed.
7. Support the local economy by using locally sourced products wherever possible.
8. Promote the Dukeries, Sherwood Forest and local businesses with an array of information leaflets.
9. Support local delivery of bottled milk and re-cycling of milk bottles.
10. Support local free range egg producer and return of egg cartons.
11. By making our own jam and preserves, glass jars are re-used.
12. Purchasing a growing number of recycled products, e.g. stationary from recycled paper and re-using supermarket bags.
13. Water butt used for tubs and plant pots.
14. The property is non-smoking throughout.

We would appreciate assistance and encourage guests to help by:
1. Not leaving lights and the electric fire on when leaving the premises.
2. Not leaving the TV on standby mode.
3. Supporting local businesses.
4. Leaving newspapers, glass and plastic bottles to the side of main rubbish so we can recycle them.
5. Supporting our laundry policy and re-using towels.
