Carmarthen that is located in Carmarthenshire is considered to be a community as well as a county town that is located in Wales, and is situated in the Towy river and claims to be the oldest town in the entire area of Wales. Carmarthen currently has about 15,000 citizens.

Carmarthen is famous for its surviving heritage attractions which include places such as the Roman amphitheatre and the castle it has which was built in a medieval style, as well as an historic railway section which has been opened for tourists to see.

A large part of the population in Carmarthen are speaking Welsh as well, which makes it the largest population of Welsh speakers in the area.

While visiting Carmarthen either with your friends and family or by yourself, you might want to visit the famous landmarks that Carmarthen has to offer, which include the local monument called Picton's monument which was erected way back in 1828 at the west part of the town - towards its end, and was erected for the memory of Sir Thomas Picton who died during the Waterloo battle. Picton's monument is about 75 foot tall and was built to resemble the Trajan's column that is situated in Rome.

You might also want to visit the General Nott statue which is located in the Nott square. The statue is of General Nott and was erected there in the year 1851 and was made from bronze that was captured during the Maharajpur battle - it was part of a cannon.

While in Carmarthen you might also want to enjoy the local sport matches such as the Speedway racing event which took place there back in the early 2000s where a track was built to accommodate it.

Carmarthen also boasts having its own soccer team which is called the Carmarthen Town F.C. which you can watch play, as well as two rugby teams, which are called the Carmarthen Quins and the Carmarthen Athletic, as well as many golf courses.

If you are worried about transportation, you can reach Carmarthen using the Carmarthen railway station which is in the West Wales Line and is linked via that line to close locations such as Cardiff and Swansea as well as places to the east like Milford Haven and Tenby and many other places. You can also use the inner city trains during your stay in Carmarthen, or use the Park and Ride facility which is available for use almost every day, and there are also major roads that arrive to Carmarthen from various other locations.

Carmarthen also boasts being the home for many notable people, which include people such as Nicky Stevens which is a member of the Brotherhood of Man group which is a pop group, or people like the architect John Nash and the screenwriter who also directs, Daniel Mulloy, and many other people including musician Nik Turner and a snooker professional called Matthew Stevens, the drummer John Weathers and the writer Byron Rogers, and many other famous people.
