| Situation Carnwethers is situated in a designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty;, above the beautiful secluded bay of Pelistry, about 2.5 miles from Hugh Town by road, but 1.5 miles on foot through Holy Vale. The sandy beach is sheltered from prevailing winds and forms a veritable sun trap. At low tide, Tolls Island can be reached from the beach. Carnwethers was once the farmhouse for Pelistry Farm and is built on higher ground amidst farming and daffodil country; close to the most natural and scenic part of St. Mary's, and near the nature trails and lovely coastal walks along the headlands, through the pines and ferns. Away from the hustle and bustle, Pelistry has the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere of the off-islands without being isolated from the modern amenities of St. Mary's. Thus Carnwethers enjoys the best of both worlds and is ideal for a comfortable and relaxing holiday 'far from the madding crowd'. ![]() It is only fair to mention that silence is relative and we did once have a guest disturbed by a cow munching on grass in the next field! |
