Welcome to Cathedral View

Cathedral View, Winchester

All visitors are struck by this award-winning conversion of a one-time chocolate factory into a highly original living space in the heart of medieval Winchester with stunning views over the cathedral, city and rural Hampshire. It has considerable charm and character.

All household linen, including towels, is provided at no extra charge.
Personal touches like pictures, photos and books contribute to a homely atmosphere.
Half a minute's walk from the High St. and shops, but in a quiet side street, it is an ideal base for a couple wishing to explore Winchester and its surroundings.
The house is approached from King's Head Yard through a gated, brick-paved courtyard.

The front door opens on to a hall with a wide spiral staircase rising right to the top of the house. The rooms leading off it are all comfortably furnished in traditional English style.

The bedroom has a king-size bed craftsman-made out of local Hampshire oak from which you can watch TV and/or listen to the hi-fi/radio.

There is a spacious bathroom complete with shower/bath, basin, WC, washing machine and exercise bike.

Above the bedroom is the sitting room, with a further hi-fi. A large window overlooks the old roofs of Little Minster St. with the cathedral behind.

There is a fully-equipped modern kitchen with dining table and chairs; gas hob, fan-assisted electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, toaster, food processor and blender/smoothie maker. There are ample supplies of herbs and spices so please help yourselves, and browse through our cookery books.

At the top of the house is the garden room with glass sliding doors leading out on to the attractive roof terrace with magnificent wide views over the cathedral, a mere stone's throw away. From here you can also admire the roofscape of the city dating back to medieval times, the fine fourteenth-century Winchester College chapel tower and, on either side of the cathedral, St Giles' and St Catherine's hills, an easy walk from the house. This terrace is a great place to eat out in fine weather, often to the sound of the cathedral bells.

Back inside you can relax on the sofa in front of the TV or watch a video.

Apart from the bedroom and bathroom, everything is open plan and the variations of level give a great sense of light and space. The house is fully centrally heated and there is a portable fan for use in warm weather.

We live here for part of the year and various personal touches like pictures, books, videos, photos and other mementoes are bound to make you feel home from home.

You will find cereals, bread, butter, marmalade, fresh fruit juice, tea and coffee etc. on your arrival so you need not shop for breakfast on your first morning.

Free parking is available with the Visitor's permit which you will be given on arrival.

You will understand we cannot accept smokers or pets. The house is unsuitable for small children (except babes-in-arms).
