Cley Windmill dates from the early 18th Century and is a well-known landmark on the north Norfolk coast. It commands breathtaking views over the salt marshes to Blakeney Point and the sea, while nestling comfortably by the old quay, and alongside the flint-walled cottages of the village.

The windmill itself has been converted into a guesthouse of immense character, charm and comfort. The old stables and boathouses are now stylish bedrooms or self catering retreats for independent holidaymakers.

We welcome both B&B and Self Catering guests. The windmill is also available for private house parties and weddings, should you wish to entertain your guests in a unique and magical setting.

The windmill featured in MGM's 1949 film 'Conspirator' with Elizabeth Taylor and was the scene of various intrigues in the televised Ruth Rendell Mysteries. It featured extensively in David Bellamy's television series and was used for several years, with the sails apparently turning, as the BBC1 continuity link.

The windmill stands on the north side of the village within walking distance of the excellent and unusual village shops. It has uninterrupted views over the sea, the salt marshes and Cley Bird Sanctuary, with Blakeney Harbour in the distance. The large walled garden abuts the river Glaven, surrounded by reeds and tranquility.

The windmill is a unique building and has one of the highest occupancy rates of any guesthouse in England, achieving 99% in August and averaging 84% for the rest of the year.

Bed and Breakfast

Staying at Cley Windmill has to be one of life's unique experiences, combining character, warmth and comfort.The ground floor includes a magnificent circular sitting room where antique furniture and inviting sofas nestle comfortably around a roaring open fire. The beamed dining room, part of the original warehouse built in 1713, has a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to dine. The upstairs rooms and galleries have stunning views over the marshes and the sea.

Self Catering

The original stables and boat houses have been converted into two, well appointed holiday cottages. These are comfortable retreats retaining their original characters. They are available (normally on a weekly basis) throughout the year. They can also be let as bedroom annexes, from which guests can enjoy the normal guest house facilities of the windmill, including our fantastic dining facilities.

Dining

Available to residents and non-residents.
Guests can join us from 6.45pm and enjoy the spectacular views from the gallery.
Enjoy pre-dinner drinks by our roaring fire in the circular sitting room, or, in the summer months, why not sit on the lawn, looking out to sea over the reeds and marshes?
Dinner is served at 7.30pm and booking in advance is essential for
non-residents (subject to availability).
Dining is also available to all wedding party and private house party guests (and remember our private house parties can accommodate up to 18 people!).

Weddings

The windmill has a full wedding licence and can accommodate a maximum of 18 people in our sitting room, which is where the wedding ceremony takes place. Weddings are conducted by the Registrar from North Walsham and these take place in the afternoon.

If your wish is for the ceremony only, the price is £490.00.

If you wish to take the entire windmill, we can accommodate 14 people in our Bed & Breakfast rooms or the number can go up to 20 if we include the Self Catering cottages.

Because of the unique and memorable setting, we experience high demand for weddings and we often receive bookings up to two years in advance!

The windmill is also an ideal place for gatherings following a christening or any other ceremony.

Private House Parties

Why not book the entire windmill?

We now offer the opportunity to hire the entire windmill for exclusive days or weeks at a time. This is a unique and memorable way to entertain your friends and family. The windmill can sleep up to 20 in 9 rooms on a B&B basis. Evening meals and lunches are also available.

Christmas and New Year

For these two special weeks we release the entire windmill as a self catering venue. Take over the whole windmill and have full use of the magnificent kitchen, sitting room and dining room.
