It is only a five minute stroll from the town centre where there is an abundance of shops, restaurants and public houses. Skipton is situated in the Yorkshire Dales and is known as "The Gateway to the Dales". It is an immensely popular base for people wishing to visit the surrounding area. The town holds a busy street market every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday which is situated on both sides of the High Street on the attractive cobbled setts. Aireville Park, a two minute walk from Dalesgate Lodge, offers peaceful walks, a pitch and putt course, an indoor heated swimming pool and hard tennis courts.
Skipton also offers you a visit to the 900 year old Castle, once the home of Lady Ann Clifford, and the fully roofed buildings boast facilities such as dungeons and watch towers, Railway enthusiasts will find a trip on the famous Settle to Carlisle line a must. For the more energetic there is caving, potholing, hiking, mountain biking or even ballooning.Twelve miles away in the little picturesque village of Haworth is the home of the Bronte Sisters and anybody who has read Wuthering Heights will see the rugged landscape so clearly portrayed in the novel.
