Dundee, Angus is a city rapidly growing and adapting to modern society and a fast-paced world, but still retains the wonder and magic Scotland has to offer. With unspoiled country surroundings, a rich history and strong culture and tradition, Dundee is an amazing place to visit. Marvel at the contrasting landscape of rugged coastlines, gentle lowlands and Highland Glens, all merging together to form a stunning backdrop against a city with some of the best attractions and activities Scotland has to offer.
Dundee and the surrounding area have some of the most amazing history to experience. Begin with Glamis Castle, a five star visitor attraction just a short drive out of the centre of Dundee. You are guaranteed to gape in awe at the fabulous architecture and children will love the legends and myths behind the building, and with beautiful grounds surrounding the castle you are sure to fall under it's spell. The castle is famed as being the childhood home of the Queen Mother, as well as the setting for William Shakespeare's Macbeth, therefore there's definitely something to see around every corner. Nearer to the centre of Dundee, you can experience the wonder of the RRS Discovery, an award winning attraction that transports you to Antarctica, detailing the heroic voyage undertaken by Captain Scott.
A relaxing retreat into the scenic surroundings will lead you to Camperdown Country Park, the largest public park in Dundee. The park is gorgeous through all four seasons and with 190 species of tree, it never looks identical twice. The park serves as a backdrop for a variety of events taking place throughout the year, including charity events such as the Race for Life. Camperdown Country Park also houses a wildlife centre, home to around 100 species, with Bears and Lemurs, amongst others, all having over 400 acres of space to roam in. A trip to the top of the Law, the highest point in the city, is a tiring walk, but is worth the effort when you witness the panoramic spectacular view of the city, including the river, the harbour, the hills and the meadows.
If you're after a decidedly more "city" feel, Dundee won't disappoint. The high street and back streets are loaded with amazing recognisable retailers, independent and quirky stores and little boutiques. As well as this, you will find an excellent variety of food venues for breakfast, lunch or tea, with cafes, restaurants, bistros, pubs and fast food shops and the fantastic range of pubs, clubs, cinemas, show bars and theatres will provide all of the entertainment requirements for the evenings. Accommodation in Dundee is varied and you can choose to stay one of the many luxurious hotels, charming guesthouses, quaint bed and breakfasts or bed for a night hostels. A visit to Dundee is worth every penny and can be utilised as a family holiday, a city break or a romantic getaway and you can be guaranteed everyone will have a great time.
