Set in the heart of the beautiful un-spoilt North Norfolk countryside and only four miles from the coast, Elderton Lodge Hotel and Restaurant dates back to earlier, perhaps more graceful, times. Once the Shooting Lodge to the adjacent Gunton Hall Estate, the lodge was a favoured retreat for Lillie Langtry, the noted Victorian beauty. According to local lore it was here that she entertained Edward VII, then Prince of Wales, who frequently visited Gunton Hall, family home of the Lords of Suffield.

Surrounded by its own six acres of mature gardens Elderton Lodge was a discreet venue, a sanctuary from the madding crowd: and so it remains to this day with a unique location enjoying views of the herds of deer and spectacular sunsets across the eight hundred acres of Gunton Park.

Built in the latter half of the eighteenth century of local estate bricks and faced with pebbles from the nearby coast, Elderton Lodge (Grade II listed) still remains original features. The eleven individually decorated bedrooms, though traditional in style, are tastefully appointed to the highest modern standards. All rooms have en-suite bath or shower-rooms, central heating, remote control televisions, direct dial telephones and courtesy tea and coffee making facilities. The public rooms include the lounge bar, with its view across the park, the conservatory and the elegant candlelit restaurant which is nationally recognized for fine food. The emphasis is on fresh produce with fresh fish, lobsters, crabs and mussels from the nearby coast and game, in season, including Gunton Park venison, from the adjacent estates. There is an extensive and personally selected wine list and cellar to complement your meal.

Rural North Norfolk remains one of the least spoilt areas of the country. Set midway between the Heritage coast and the Broads National Park in a designated conservation area, Elderton Lodge is close to the important National Trust properties of Blickling and Felbrigg Halls and many of the timeless flint and pantiled villages and fine medieval churches for which this part of East Anglia is famous. The hotel's heritage extends to many of the outdoor activities which can be arranged: sailing on the Broads and coast, horse-riding, golf at Royal Cromer and Sheringham Golf Clubs, duck flighting and game shooting (in season), coarse, sea and trout fishing and regular bird watching excursions for beginners and the more experienced. Open throughout the year Elderton Lodge makes an ideal base to experience it all. But a beautiful setting and a wide range of activities are not all that sets us apart. We have a genuine concern for the comfort of our guests.
