The seaside town of Felixstowe, in the county of Suffolk, is the perfect example of what makes the seaside towns in the United Kingdom so unique and beautiful. To be fair, Felixstowe definitely was endowed with plenty of luck as far as beauty is considered. After all, it lies on the coast of the North Sea. This incredibly bountiful and stunning body of water is itself one of the most famous bodies of water in the world and it connects to nearly all of its competitors in that arena including the English Channel and the Dover Strait. In short, the North Sea offers plenty of amazing sights and any town lucky enough to be laying alongside it has no doubt benefited throughout its existence from this incredible sea. The Port of Felixstowe is arguably more popular than the town itself in terms of importance to maritime events and sailors and it is the largest container port in the entire United Kingdom.
Not surprisingly, Felixstowe has been inhabited for quite some time and by the time England was in full control of the town it had long been an important strategic town for the various nations and empires that had come before. This didn't change when Felixstowe became decidedly British and throughout its life it has been a highly guarded location during times of struggle because of its proximity to the Channel and the various straits in the area. After all, if one were to take Felixstowe one could have a reasonable chance of choking off supplies and reinforcements throughout the rest of the continent little by little. During the 1600s, when the Dutch military was mighty and ready to expand, Felixstowe was attacked and nearly taken from England. In those days Felixstowe wasn't as prominent a port as it would be closer to the Industrial Revolution but it never stopped being in danger of attack. Even during World War II Britain intentionally destroyed the pier in town so that enemies wouldn't be able to make easy landings. While this was definitely a bit of clever strategy, it was unfortunate because at the time it was one of the largest and longest piers in the world. What made it even worse is the fact that it has still not been repaired to its former glory even today.
These days, of course, Felixstowe is not in danger of being attacked by a nautical force but it is still highly sought after by the many vacationers who are thrilled by the exciting nightlife. Many beautiful resorts and entertainment venues can be found and, most importantly, Felixstowe offers excitement for the entire family. There are also countless pubs that offer thrills for those with more adult tastes on their palate and thus it isn't surprising that the town is beloved by a wide range of people for an almost limitless amount of reasons. Felixstowe may not be the only seaside resort town in England but it is certainly in the running for the best one.
