Though the quaint town of Filey only has a meager population of around six thousand citizens, it is nonetheless one of the more interesting and enjoyable parts of North Yorkshire, a county that itself is home to plenty of interesting and enjoyable burgs. Filey is perhaps the best example of the beauty of North Yorkshire and there are a vast array of natural features and landscapes to thrill the senses of visitors and residents alike. The coast of the North Sea is within Filey and naturally had endowed the town with a wealth of fishing and resort construction for centuries. To the west of Filey is the famed Cleveland way, one of the most beautiful trails in the country and one that leads to the famed North York Moors. To the south is another beautiful walkway known as the Yorkshire Wolds Way. In short, no matter what way you enter the town you can be sure that you'll be treated to impressive and awe-inspiring visual splendor.

Speaking of traveling to Filey, it is recommended that you take the Yorkshire Coast Line if you are a tourist and you are coming by railway. This impressive line will treat you to some downright lovely ocean views and it will prepare your heart and mind for the excitement of a holiday at Filey. Now is the perfect time to visit the seaside locale as many impressive additions to the town have been enacted in order to make tourism an even more enjoyable affair. A massive development boasting over six hundred condos made specifically for vacationers is now open and is known as the Bay Filey. The Persimmon Estate is also a great new location but this is meant more for residents. All the same, both new developments add to the beauty of the area rather than detracting from it.

As beautiful and majestic as Filey is, it is even more so when one ponders the many misfortunes that have befallen the town throughout its history. The most recent of these disasters was a treacherous flash flood that struck the town in 2007. Many areas were decimated but fortunately there were few casualties. In 1931 an earthquake struck Filey and damaged a gorgeous and antique spire in town. John Paul Jones, the father of the U.S. Navy, was sailing the famed Bonhomme Richard when it sunk in the waters outside Filey during a crucial battle. To this day the remains of the ship have yet to be found and it is one of the town's most enduring mysteries. Either way, it is rather interesting that a city filled to the brim with beauty has had a history that is so dark. This is par for the course for many English cities, though, and perhaps it is better to remark on how great Filey looks and feels today rather than talking at length about the various misfortunes that the town has suffered in the past. After all, a visit to the city only evokes good feelings anyway.
