Welcome to Fortitude Cottage

Set in a world class waterfront location. Established over forty years ago, Fortitude Cottage is a family run Guest House, which enjoys an excellent reputation for providing welcome and comfortable accommodation combined with quality.

Named after an old ship of the line, it overlooks the bustling quayside at the heart of Old Portsmouth, near the ancient fortifications.

All the bedrooms are attractively furnished and immaculately maintained, one has a private balcony and roof terrace with 360 degree views.

The breakfast room with its old beams and bay window view of the fishing boats and ferries, makes a pleasurable start to the day. Pale blue and rose furnishings with pretty blue and white china on pine tables complete the welcome and personal atmosphere.

Only bed and breakfast are offered, but there are many excellent restaurants and pubs nearby serving a wide choice of lunches and evening meals.

On the quay opposite, the Waterbus runs from Easter to November. A five minute ride takes one to the "Victory", Henry VIII's "Mary Rose" and 19th century "Warrior", the first iron clad battleship.

The island of Portsea and its surrounding countryside of Hampshire and Sussex, with its maritime and rural interests, offer the visitor endless opportunities for discovery and relaxation. From the bus stop nearby one may travel to fashionable Southsea in a few minutes, or to the shopping precincts in central Portsmouth, and the new development Gunwharf Quays.

Approximately 1 mile away is the harbour station, including bus and coach terminus. The Continental Ferry Port is just over 2 miles away.

Directions

From M27 exit junction 12 "Portsmouth & Ferries" follow signs through town to Isle of Wight - "I.O.W. Car Ferry" - then pick up signs to "Cathedral Old Portsmouth". Go past the Cathedral to the end of the road into broad street, we are at number 51.
