Foxghyll GH

The house was built in the 1600's, originally in the style of a typical old Lakeland farmhouse and remained virtually unchanged for over 200 years, having had the famous writer and poet Thomas De Quincey as a tenant for a short time.

In the 1800's the house was acquired by the Hon. W.E. Forster MP for the Borough of Bradford, and the first Minister of Education. Extensive additions were added in the decorative and also imaginative style of an affluent Regency Country House.

Foxghyll GH Formal gardens of approximately two acres, with a stream running through, were laid, giving the house a peaceful secluded setting, yet only five minutes by car to Ambleside, or a leisurely fifteen minutes walk along the quiet picturesque Rothay Valley to all the amenities of the Lake District.
Guests are offered the choice of three spacious and luxurious en suite bedrooms; all come equipped with tea making facilities, Colour TV, hairdryer and clock radio. They all have comfortable seating, with either settees or armchairs and have views over the garden, to the untouched beauty of the Lakeland fells. One of the bathrooms contains a relaxing Spa Bath, in which you can ease away those aches and pains after a day of climbing on the hills.Bedroom
LoungeGuests can also relax in the bright South-facing lounge with direct access onto the garden, in which they may stroll at leisure and enjoy the varied and unusual array of shrubs that surround the house.
A full substantial traditional English breakfast is served in the adjoining Dining Room. Vegetarians can be catered for on request.Dining Room
