The wide tidal range of the coast line is the main reason for the name of Grange -over-Sands. This civil parish by the sea was originally a small fishing village during the Victorian era. Thanks to the introduction of the railway system it has morphed from a simple fishing village to a popular seaside resort on the Morecambe Bay.

One of the main things that people notice when they arrive at Grange-Over-Sands is how it is ideally positioned between the mountains and the sea. Here visitors can take walks in the mild climate and tour the beautiful gardens. There are many other activities to enjoy in and around this beautiful town.

In the nearby village of Cartmel is a twelfth century Priory that is a definite stop. This Priory has wonderful stain glass windows and an antique choir stall that many visitors enjoy viewing. After visiting the Priory, be sure to check out some of the unique shops and local pubs on the main square. If you are in the area during the spring and summer bank holidays don't miss the steeple chase meetings that are held. The beauty of the watching the horses run are wonderful entertainment even if you aren't an equine expert.

While you are staying in Grange-Over-Sands during the summer months you absolutely must take the Cross Bay Walk. By getting an experienced guide to take guide you around the eight-mile walk that goes across the Morcambe Bay. Generally you will start at Arnside and end at Kents Bank. During the three hour walk you can see ducks, breath taking coastline views, oyster catchers as they gather the shellfish and all the other magic that is part of the bay. Those unfamiliar shouldn't do this walk without a guide. There are many trouble areas that they can guide you around, the last thing you want to worry about is getting stuck in quick sand or go on the walk during the high tide.

For the golfers in the family, Grange over Sands Golf Club is a 18-hole course with stunning views of the surrounding woods and open countryside. You can also check out the 9-hole Grange Fell Golf Course or if you're with the family and want to practice your putting, then the Promenade Recreation Ground is the spot to stop, it has mini golf courses and putting greens for those who aren't interested in a full game.

The Promenade Recreation Ground is home to many fun activities for the family. You can play mini golf and tennis among other things. Once you're done with those activities you can hit the Promenade Cafe for a quick bite to eat or something to drink.

Grange-Over-Sands is a cozy, relaxing get away for weary travelers. With so much beauty to see and nearby locations it really is the place to go for a relaxing holiday.
