The capital of Strathspey, Grantown-on-Spey is located in the center of the Scottish Highlands. This traditional Highland town is located on the River Spey. This is home to many wonderful sights as well as an award winning museum. Visitors to this little town have many areas to visit and enjoy during their stay.

The Grantown Museum is an award winning museum, winning the Commended in the Scottish Museum of the Year Awards in 1999. This museum begins with the town's beginning in 1765. It then tells the story of the history of the town. It also provides research facilities for genealogy and local history. It is located in a traditional home of the Clan Grant and many inquire about the museum from Grants around the world.

Once you get a feel for the lovely town you are visiting it's time to check out some of the activities around the area. For the nature lover you need to check out the Craggan Outdoors Center. This center offers canoeing, kayaking, archery, gorge walks as well as climbing and mountaineering. You can enjoy all of these activities while taking in the magnificent scenery.

If you don't mind going outside of the town a short ways, a mile at most, then you can enjoy the Revack Highland Estate and Adventure Park. You can take nice walks, shop, eat and even spot indigenous wildlife all on this 350 acre park.

Are you a lover of steam trains? Then make sure you take a trip on the Strathspey. This steam train runs between Aviemore and Boat of Garten to Broomhill, which is located three miles from Grantown. Its worth the trip just to see the scenery along the way.

For those who love wildlife you should make the trip to Kincraig. At the Highland Wildlife Park offers you the experience to see things like wolves, lynx, otters, badgers, or other wildlife. Read dear are especially visible during the autumn months, but no matter what your interested in seeing you are sure to find a variety of wildlife to enjoy. You can walk the area or you can drive through in one of the Highland Wildlife Park.

For those who are appreciators of fine malt whiskey should check out the Malt Whisky Trail. Grantown on Sprey has the proud title as the gateway to the trail and always participates in the annual Spirit of Speyside Whiskey Festival. During your stay you should check out some of the distilleries. Glenfiddich is probably one of the best known single malt whiskeys in the world. Located in nearby Dufftown on the river Fiddich visitors can tour the destination and enjoy a small sample of their excellent product.
