Other accommodation near Grasmere

The town of Grasmere is yet another beautiful town in the famed English Lake District. The Lake District has inspired countless poets and writers for time immemorial due to the absolutely awe-inspiring scenery. Rolling hills, sweeping mountains and bounteous plains can be seen from every angle and this has had much to do with Cumbria being known as one of the most gorgeous counties on the face of the earth. The Lake District is also one of the highest elevated areas in all of England with nearly every part of the county reaching higher than three thousand feet above sea level.

Grasmere is just one of the lovely cities in the Lake District but it may be in the running for the loveliest: As mentioned before, countless poets have written at length about the beauty of the area and none other than William Wordsworth said that it was the most beautiful town he ever lived in. During his 14 year residence in the town Wordsworth would frequently breakfast with other celebrities who were drawn to the pristine beauty of the town including Sir Walter Scott and others.

Another rather charming aspect of Grasmere is the famed Helm Crag. The locals have a few colloquial names for it including "The Lion and the Lamb" and "Old Lady at the Piano". These are nicknames given to the crag on account of its rocky shape but in truth it is much like a cloud in that it can represent whatever the individual wishes of it. The writer Alfred Wainwright surmised that it was the most underrated natural formation in England and many other supporters of the town share his view. Wainright also made quite the impression on Grasmere and now a Coast to Coast Walk event under his name is one of the largest draws in town. A race of sorts, the Coast to Coast event combines fun and fitness in ways previously unimagined and the gorgeous scenery naturally lends even more wonder to the proceedings. There are of course many other fantastic events within Grasmere that bring in tourists from all over and many of these are just as much fun for residents as they are for visitors. The Rushbearing Ceremony, for instance, has been held yearly for countless centuries and is as much a learning experience and history lesson as it is a downright fun way to get in touch with your roots. Everyone is welcome and nearly everyone has a phenomenal time.

Many other famous individuals have fallen in love with Grasmere including Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Fred Yates, both of whom crafted works of art inspired by the town. A full list of the masterpieces created as a result of Grasmere's beauty would comprise an entire tome but the best way to get a sense of the magic in the air of Grasmere is simply to visit the city. Within seconds you'll understand why the town brings out so much adoration in anybody willing to give it a second glance.
