Standing in the shadow of York Minster is the ancient Guy Fawkes Inn.

The notorious plotter intent on blowing up the Houses of Parliament on November 5th 1605 was born here, and today the Inn that bears his name is the finest in the city and one of the best preserved in the country. With gas lighting, timber floors, roaring log fires, huge settles, ales served from barrels behind the bar and a grandfather clock ticking in the corner, this dark and mysterious Inn is a treasure to behold. We are also home to the world famous Guy Fawkes Ghost Walk.

You can stay here too. With twelve beautiful hotel bedrooms and the stunning Belfry Suite, Guy Fawkes Inn is a place lost in time to which you will return time and again.

The world famous Guy Fawkes Ghost Walk leaves from inside the Inn at 7.30pm every evening and takes you through the streets of York with a master story teller at the helm. The only ghost walk in York that ventures inside the city's haunted buildings will leave you with a chill of excitement running down your spine.

Rooms

Take the winding, uneven timber staircase to the top of the Inn and you'll quickly discover what makes Guy Fawkes such a unique place. You'll feel as though you can almost touch the Minster from some of our bedrooms! Keep going and you will come to the Belfry Suite with a perfect view of the Church where Fawkes was baptised. You might prefer to stay in the cottage in the courtyard where he was born?

Whichever room you choose you will find it to be beautifully decorated and furnished. So sit back and let us bring you a bottle of chilled Champagne, whilst you take time to relax and think about the history that surrounds you.

Petite Double

Our Petite Double room at Guy Fawkes is compact and comfortable. Dressed with fine fabrics and antique furniture your room has a large flat screen TV with Freeview. In your bathroom there is a power shower and L'Occitane toiletries. You will also find complimentary Wi-Fi internet access and tea and coffee making facilities.

Deluxe Double

Our six Deluxe rooms are large, airy and have views of the Guy Fawkes cottage in the courtyard. Your bed has a handmade mattress dressed with crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and sumptuous Italian fabrics. Your bathroom has either a power shower or bath and L'Occitane toiletries. You will also find a flat screen TV with Freeview, complimentary Wi-Fi internet access and tea and coffee making facilities. Some rooms also have a writing desk.

Four Poster

There are five Four Poster rooms at Guy Fawkes. Four of these lovely rooms have the best views of York Minster in the city and the fifth is in the cottage where Guy Fawkes was born. Your room is dressed with fabulous fabrics, antique furniture and your bed has a handmade mattress with crisp Egyptian cotton sheets. The bathroom has either a power shower or freestanding bath and L'Occitane toiletries. You will also find a flat screen TV with Freeview, complimentary Wi-Fi internet access and tea and coffee making facilities. Some rooms also have a writing desk.

Belfry Suite

Up in the eaves of Guy Fawkes is the Belfry Suite, with its low beams and close ceilings our Suite is a collection of the most fascinating rooms in the Inn. The sitting room has unrivalled views of the Minster. There is even a little library in the hall! Your bed has a handmade mattress and crisp Egyptian cotton sheets, and in the bathroom you'll find a Jacuzzi bath with L'Occitane toiletries. The Suite is also equipped with a large flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD player, complimentary Wi-Fi internet access and tea and coffee making facilities.

Food & Drink

Our chefs' prepare good, simple homemade Yorkshire food. We always use fresh, local and in-season ingredients for our dishes and we have the most delicious selection of pies to tempt anyone!

We take our Real Ales seriously and have up to eight on offer at any one time. Our own Guy Fawkes 1605 Strong Ale and The Conspirator are both highly recommended. In the true spirit of democracy, customers can even vote which to keep and which to take off! Our wine list also includes some lovely fruit wines too.

We own some of York's finest eateries, including the revered Harvilles Restaurant, and we will be glad to assist with priority reservations at any of our restaurants and bars.
