E-mail EstablishmentWelcome
Handa is our home and it is named after Handa Island, a bird sanctuary off the North West coast of Scotland. We have welcomed B&B guests for 15 years. Each visit helps us to realise how privileged we are to live here.
Although we are not on the recognised tourist trail, Handa is well positioned for touring the whole of Lewis and Harris. Should you prefer to relax at home you can enjoy good walks, bird watching and even fishing.
We also offer Self Catering in a separate annexe in the grounds of Handa. |
Bed and Breakfast at Handa

Tucked away at the far end of the village of Keose Glebe in the lovely and under stated district of Lochs, Handa enjoys an elevated position with fabulous views.
The south-facing double bedroom on the ground floor has an en-suite toilet with bath and separate shower.
On the first floor we have a choice of two rooms: a north-facing double or a south-facing twin. Although this suite is normally let to one couple it is ideal for a family who are willing to share a toilet and shower (or for a couple who snore!) Both rooms have a washbasin.
There is a spacious lounge on the first floor with a TV, Video, DVD and well-stocked bookcases. We installed a sink unit with storage which is handy for snacks and picnic preparation. You are also welcome to use our laundry facilities if required. | |
Self-Catering at Handa

This compact little house, which sleeps 4, was built for Christine`s late mum Mary Anne, who helped us for many years with our B&B. All of our guests have been very happy staying here.
If you want to really relax and feel as though you are on the edge of the world and yet have the security of knowing that others are not far away, you would love being here.
After the initial welcome, we like to give our guests space and keep out of the way. However we are very happy to see you anytime and our kitchen is also yours if you run out of anything.

Food at Handa
Handa won a Taste of Scotland award in 1995. In 2003 Handa was also nominated for the award "Dedication to the use of Local Seasonal Produce".
We serve a menu Breakfast in the dining room on the ground floor. You can choose traditional but we specialise in alternatives. If you really cannot face a cooked breakfast you may have a light meal and we will give you a packed lunch instead.
In the past we provided evening meals but do not want to encourage them any more (hence the prohibitive price!). In Stornoway (20 minutes’ drive) there are a good variety of restaurants and takeaways. However, if after a long day touring round the island you do not feel like going out again you are welcome to share limited cooking facilities in the utility on the ground floor to prepare a light evening meal. |
How To Find Us
Access to the island has never been easier. You can get a car ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway, or from Uig (Skye) to Tarbert.
You could choose instead to fly to Stornoway from Benbecula, Inverness, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. With connecting flights you could be here from London in 3 hours. |
