Hello, and welcome to a whole new era for The Hare and Hounds Hotel at Speen, Newbury. Recently purchased by Jonathan & Jean Nelsey, this historic hotel is now receiving the style of care and attention which only comes from private owners who understand both the hotel and its customers.

The Hare and Hounds has a variety of Coach house and Mews cottage bedrooms which have been brought together over the years to leave the hotel with a enviable choice and style of bedrooms. Set within the main Inn and also around the gardens, all rooms are furnished to a modern standard, and are popular with both business and leisure guests.
For those needing t’internet, we offer a free wireless network, no connection issues, or charging worries, just switch on and go!

Restaurant

Our restaurant is increasingly establishing a popular following amongst the local dining out scene.

We have tried to create an atmosphere that is relaxed and informal without compromising professional service and quality.

Monthly changing menus, weekly specials all cooked to order from fresh locally sourced ingredients, complimented by an excellent choice of wines from our wine list.

Our home made sweets are a must try, particularly our signature Chocolate overture.

Sunday Roasts are proving popular as is our outside dining area, the recently opened Observatory.

Bar

The newly refurbished bar area has a style and atmosphere to be enjoyed by both our strong local following and hotel residents alike.

Indeed we are very proud to be described by our regular guests as "a real home from home”

Being a freehouse, we are able to offer a good selection of local and popular real ales, guest beers and lagers. Our extensive choice of wines by the glass and a full range of liqueurs and spirits are also well enjoyed by our clientele.

Food is available whether you require a bar snack or a more substantial choice from one of our popular menus.

Location

The Hare and Hounds is ideally situated just a few minutes from the centre of Newbury. Just head west on the A4 Old London Road. Coming from the M4 junction 13, take the A34 Newbury Bypass South and turn off at the juction marked Newbury, Hungerford A4. If heading north on the A34, Speen is also clearly sign posted.
