The lovely and breathtaking town of Harlech may just be the perfect example of what makes the nation of Wales so endearing to the rest of the world. After all, Harlech encompasses all the aspects that Wales is famous for and these include staggeringly beautiful natural landscapes, fascinating history and historical relics, and charming townspeople. In addition, Harlech has fewer than two thousand people living within its limits and this helps it to maintain the gorgeous appearance that it has had for thousands of years. More than half the people in the town speak Welsh and this too adds to the atmosphere and makes Harlech a decidedly Welsh city, an attribute that isn't always a guarantee even for a town that is located in Wales.
At any rate, much of Harlech's beauty is derived from the fact that it is located within the truly stunning Snowdonia National Park. Anybody familiar with Snowdonia knows that there are few places on the face of the Earth that can compare with the stately beauty that ebbs out of every corner of this glorious location. More than six million people visit the Snowdonia National Park each year to hike through the mountains, explore the forests, lay eyes on the rare animals, and engage in all manner of exciting activities. Naturally, this helps make Harlech a great stopover destination where adventurers can rest and relax after a long day of unrestrained glee. The inns and shops are topnotch and cater to the pioneer spirit that is so evident in most of the visitors to Snowdonia.
Harlech is more than just a great place to lay your head during a Snowdonia holiday, though. Contained within the town are countless historical relics as well as beautiful landmarks that make the town itself just as worthy of tourism as the entire park. Harlech Castle is both the most prominent and the most popular of the ancient treasures and the castle has the notable distinction of being started by none other than Edward I. Overlooking the gorgeous Irish Sea, this masterpiece of design was originally constructed in the latter years of the thirteenth century. It was during this time that Edward I was once again leading a Welsh campaign. The brilliant design of the castle is evident in the massive gatehouses and concentric construction. Few castles in the area could hope to be as fortified as Harlech Castle and thus the stronghold was used by the leaders of both Wales and England when either party was in power. Walking around this ancient treasure is truly an uplifting experience and thus it is highly recommended that some time is set aside for a tour of Harlech for anyone planning to take on the Snowdonia experience. Harlech Beach is a beautiful slice of coast line that offers unrivalled views of the lovely Irish Sea and Harlech College is a great place to further your education. By all accounts, few places in Wales offer the varied amount of thrills and enlightenment as the town of Harlech.
