The town of Harrow is as diverse and fascinating as any part of London yet it still has a safe, inviting atmosphere that is sadly not present in every part of the bustling metropolis that is modern day London. All the same it has the flavor that London is known for and is far more than just a suburb.

Northwest London does seem to be largely suburban in many parts but Harrow is in fact one of the more affluent parts of the area and thus is seen as a bit different from the typical London conurbation outline. This allows the town to enjoy a lower crime rate than most of the surrounding area (although it would appear that there is more for criminals to steal in Harrow) and some statistics place the incidence of crimes in Harrow at half of the average for other London boroughs. Evidence suggests that Harrow is in fact becoming even wealthier as remodeled Edwardian and Victorian manors are selling for higher prices. It isn't just the beauty of the area that makes Harrow more expensive, though; the location and convenience of the area make it a cinch to live in for anybody who commutes to work. Downtown London is a mere twenty minutes away from Harrow when taking the railway.

Harrow is following the traditional demographic trend of London in the last couple decades, though. Not surprisingly, Harrow's minorities are the majority with fifty five percent of the residents being listed as Black, Indian or Other. This is par for the course for a large part of London but Harrow is the perfect example of the harmony that multicultural areas can have when the residents simply try to coexist in peace. Harrow holds a lovely festival each year that celebrates multiculturalism and it is truly a thrilling affair. The Under One Sky festival regularly draws throngs of music fans from all genres and brings them together to celebrate the differences that make us human. This is a good thing for Harrow because in addition to having one of the more diverse ethnic populations the town also has the most diverse religious population in the United Kingdom. Any town with a bunch of different religions should definitely strive to unite everybody under one sky and Harrow does this admirably. A recent study suggested that if two people in Harrow crossed paths the odds of them having a different religion is sixty-two percent. This is of course incredibly remarkable. There are more Hindus in Harrow than in any other place in the United Kingdom and Harrow's own Canons Park Synagogue has more Jewish members than any other location in Europe! As mentioned earlier, Harrow has a rather low crime rate compared to the rest of London and this fact seems even more astonishing now. Whatever Harrow is doing we can rest assured that the town is doing it right. Perhaps we all should take a cue from the diverse wonderland when it comes to fostering peace and unity within a city.
