High Wycombe, with a population of nearly one hundred thousand, is the biggest and busiest town in Buckinghamshire. Like any large town, High Wycombe has its share of large buildings, factories, and other features of a town whose subsistence depends on modern-day industry. The furniture industry, for instance, is a massive part of High Wycombe's income and the city has been a leading furniture maker and designer in England for decades. Huge chains and companies like Ercol and E Gomme are based in High Wycombe and the beautiful beech trees that have always permeated High Wycombe's landscape continue to be the basis for the high quality wood products created daily in the city. Many companies that specialize in paper and office equipment, like Verco and Swan also use High Wycombe as their headquarters, adding further revenue and industry to an already productive town.
New developments in the town centre has been made with the main feature of Eden Shopping Centre, with 107 shops, new restaurants, a large bowling alley and cinema and new housing. The old Octagon shopping centre was connected to the new development. The complex is seen an a major milestone in the regeneration of the town, and is one of the largest in the country. Local attractions include West Wycombe Caves, Hughenden Manor, Wycombe Museum and Chiltern Hills.
