Sudbury
The ancient weaving town of Sudbury, situated on the River Stour, is the birthplace of painter Thomas Gainsborough, and still retains much of the character and charm of a medieval market town.

The surrounding un-spoilt Suffolk countryside is noted for its many villages of historic interest including Cavendish which is home to the Sue Ryder Foundation, Long Melford with its Elizabethan Halls and the picturesque villages of Lavenham, famous for its splendid timbered houses and perpendicular church….. The Roman town of Colchester, the Abbey ruins and gardens at Bury St Edmunds, the University City of Cambridge and Newmarket Racecourse are all within easy reach, as also are the coastal resorts of Walton, Frinton, Southwold and Aldeburgh.
There are two championship golf courses at nearby Stoke by Nayland and an 18 hole golf course at Newton Green.
The two main ferry ports for the continent at Harwich and Felixstowe are within 1 hours drive. Central London is 62 miles.
