Welcome to Hilltop Lodge!

This modern house was built in 2005. As the name suggests it is on top of the hill and commands views of 5 of the 6 counties. There is a large parking area with electric gates for security.

Hilltop Lodge is situated on the A1 dual carriageway, the main arterial route between Belfast and Dublin. Belfast is 23 miles away and can be reached in 30 minutes; Dublin is 80 miles and can be reached in 1 hour 30 minutes. Belfast International airport is a 40 minute journey and Belfast City (George Best) airport is 30 minutes.

The House

The house interior is light and airy. An under floor heating system is in operation throughout. The hallways are tiled while the guest lounge and dining room are both oak floored.

Breakfast is served in the spacious dining room and guests are given a wide and varied selection of foods for starting their day. Care and consideration is given to those with special diets.

The Bedrooms

2 x Double en-suite with shower (sleeps 2).

Each bedroom is generously proportioned with oak wooden floors and an en-suite which is tiled from floor to ceiling. A hospitality tray, hair dryer, shaver plug and LCD flat screen television is also provided. The en-suites have wet areas with power showers and towels are changed daily.

A family room with a double bed, two single beds and a child's cot is also available. This room will comfortably accommodate 4 adults.





Local Towns

Dromore
The beautiful cathedral reputedly built on the site of an ancient monastery founded by Saint Coleman in 513AD is home to the Dromore High Cross, built of granite it was reconstructed and re-erected in 1887.

John de Courcy built the Motte and Bailey when he invaded Ulster in 1177 and despite its location no visible traces of the castle remain but the spectacular view from the mound itself. Seen from the A1 dual carriageway the Victorian Viaduct is an excellent example of workmanship of the era.

Hillsborough
The village derives its name from Sir Arthur Hill who built the fort in 1650. Owned by the British Government, Hillsborough Castle is a Georgian Mansion which is used by the Royal family and the Northern Ireland Secretary of State. Guided tours through the house and grounds are available, but may need to be pre-booked.

The Oyster Festival is hosted here each September, lasting 5-6 days, there is a host of entertainment to keep young and old amused. The villages charming streets are full of quaint shops and a host of good restaurants.





Directions to Hilltop Lodge

From Belfast
Take the M1 south and leave motorway at Junction 7 (Sprucefield Roundabout) leading to Newry, Dublin. Continue on A1 for 10.5 miles past directional sign post Katesbridge/Rathfriland and take next left into Mount Ida Rd then immediate right turn. Drive to first road on right hand side Barrack Hill. House on right hand side at top of hill.

From Dublin, Newry
From Dublin take the motorway northbound; continue to Newry using the by-pass to avoid the city take the A1 Belfast and continue for 15.5 miles. Take the next right turn (the Halfway House Restaurant is on the left) turn into Mount Ida Road immediate right turn. Drive to first road on right hand side Barrack Hill. House on right hand side at top of hill.
