Holden House is a friendly family run Bed and Breakfast/Guest House offering quality accommodation on the banks of the river Trent.

All bedrooms are en-suite with colour television and radio, plus tea and coffee making facilities. Towels are provided.

It is a Grade II listed Georgian House on the banks of the river Trent and adjacent to the Trent/Mersey Canal system and the Shardlow Conservation Area

We aim to give a high quality service, to enable our guests to have an enjoyable stay, with thoughts that they will visit us time and time again.


The historic inland port of Shardlow lies approximately 6 miles south of Derby, 2 miles from Junction 24 and 24A of the M1, 4 miles from Donington Park Racing Circuit and Motor Museum, 4 miles from East Midlands International Airport, 4 1/2 miles from A42/M42 (serving Birmingham) and 1 mile from the new A50 serving the Potteries and North West. It is just a short drive from Loughborough, Nottingham and Leicester.

Hairdryer, iron/ironing board, trouser press and cot are all available on request.

Whilst staying with us at Holden House you can enjoy a wide range of meals at either Restaurants or Public Houses, which between them cater for all tastes.

No need to take that car out again in the evening!

Our freshly cooked English breakfast is served in our delightful 18th Century beamed ceiling Breakfast Room. Where we aim to serve an excellent home-cooked breakfast using fresh and local produce. Vegetarians and those on special diets are happily catered for.

TRIPS OUT OF THE IMMEDIATE AREA

Besides such a lot to see locally the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham plus the town of Loughborough are from 20 to 35 minutes away by car. The nearest railway station with connections to all around the compass is Derby Midland.

Further afield are the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District were you can visit the towns of Ashbourne and nearby Dovedale, Bakewell, Matlock, Matlock Bath and the spa town of Buxton. The National Trust has many properties in the area such as Calke Abbey, Clumber Park, Southwell Workhouse, Mr Straw's House, Hardwick Hall, Kedleston Hall and Park, Sudbury Hall and their famous Museum of Childhood. Whilst not a National Trust property there is the famous and beautiful Chatsworth House, gardens and parkland, the house being the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.

HOW TO FIND US:

For your SAT NAV please insert DE72 2GL

Leave the M1 Junction 24 when travelling north and Junction 24A when travelling south, signposted A50 Stoke and Derby. Where these two roads converge take the first junction signposted Long Eaton B6540. Once on this roundabout take the fourth exit signposted Cavendish Bridge/Shardlow.
Once over the bridge over the river Trent, you will find Holden House is the first property on the left hand side on a left hand bend. You will see the large Navigation Inn on the right just before Holden House. Our car park entrance is situated just before the house directly off the A6. Canal Bank is immediately after Holden House on the left.
For travellers coming on the A50 in a south easterly direction towards the M1 DO NOT get off at the first junction (2) sign-posted Derby / Alvaston / Shardlow. Stay on until the next junction (1) sign-posted Long Eaton B6540. Once on the roundabout take the immediate first exit on your left sign-posted Cavendish Bridge / Shardlow.
Once over the bridge over the river Trent you will find Holden House is the first property on the left hand side on a left hand bend. You will see the large Navigation Inn on the right just before Holden House. Our car park entrance is situated just before the house directly off the A6. Canal Bank is immediately after Holden House on the left.
