Horley that is located in Surrey is a town that is located in England and is close to other towns such as Reigate and Redhill that are located in the south, and Gatwick Airport as well as Crawley in the north.
Horley is connected to fast trains that arrive and come from London making it an ideal location if you want to take a vacation far but still close from home. Horley is connected to the Horley railway station and due to that has seen many commuters visit it over the years.
Horley is also in the midst of a big construction job that was approved back in the month of February in the year 2005, which was called the Horley Master Plan, and is a plan to build 2,600 extra homes in Horley. That decision is controversial since the building location is actually a green belt and suffers from flooding on occasion, and from occasional droughts during the summer months, making it a troublesome location.
In its past, Horley was actually an area with a thick forest and a marsh and was turned into a town during the Saxon rule of the place, under the Manor of Horley. Horley was passed on the Henry the 8th and changed hands again several times over the next few years. Horley consisted of three hamlets which were open back in the day - one by the local church of St. Bartholomew and another by the Mole river, and the third is located in a place where you can nowadays see very old architecture styles and building in.
It was changed again after it underwent closure way back in the year 1812, and new roads were paved and the land was sold, and over the years turnpikes were built to allow a regular coach flow that took people from London up to Brighton and vice versa. The railway in the area was only built and opened in the year 1841 and a station was built to accommodate it, and that caused Horley to slowly grow and double in population and visitors.
Horley is located in the area of East Surrey which is a constituency and is part of a Reigate borough as well as a Banstead borough, and has a town council of its own as well, that is elected by the local population.
While in Horley you might want to watch some sporting events, and you can watch the local team Horley Town F.C. play there. That team was established as early as the year 1898. If that isn't your thing you can watch the cricket club playing, and there is also a hockey club as well as s tennis and bowls clubs.
There was also added a recent rugby club to Horley, and you can also enjoy the culture and art that the locals have to offer. That art and culture includes the Archway Theatre which is the only "under the arches" theatre in the entire area of Britain and consists of a bar as well as an auditorium and a studio and rehearsal rooms.
