The town of Invergarry is located in the Highlands of Scotland. Anybody not familiar with the Highlands area is probably also not aware that this is one of the most beautiful locations on the face of the earth. It is a rugged, mountainous, glorious region that has been the site of countless films such as Braveheart and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This is because no other place on the planet looks quite like the Highlands thanks to the sweeping landscapes, gorgeous and enormous lochs, and stunning valleys. Some of the rock formations in parts of the Highlands are among the oldest on Earth. It is said that the rocks in Lewisian gneiss are over 3,000 million years old! This is far older than any dinosaur or even any trilobyte. Many parts of the Highlands show fossilized evidence of the times when the entire region was covered with thick ice sheets during the various ice ages that paralyzed this spinning blue sphere. By all accounts, the Highlands are home to some downright mind-boggling geography and visceral stimuli. This is where we find Invergarry but it is also where we find the downside to such incredible sights.

The fact of the matter is that many towns in the Highlands are very small and don't offer very much in the way of cultural amenities. Villages may be the better term to describe the small hamlets like Invergarry where only around a thousand people live for the most part. This is the nature of the Highlands, though, and unfortunately most of these locations don't have much of a night life or any semblance of culture as far as theaters and civic centers are concerned. This doesn't bother the residents, though, because most of them prefer the rustic and wild life that the Highlands provide in spades. Fortunately, Invergarry offers a bit more excitement than most of the other towns in the area and much of this is due to the fact that it is located right amid the A82 road. The road in fact runs right through the town and it allows access back and forth to larger and more entertaining towns. In other words, the people who live in Invergarry are able to enjoy a quaint and peaceful atmosphere at home but can still easily access the night life and fun diversions of the larger towns in Scotland. There is also quite a lot of history in Invergarry that brings people from the larger towns in to see such ancient sites as Invergarry Castle, a ruined stone stronghold that overlooks an imposing and frightful cliff. The castle understandably draws a pretty large crowd all year round and it is one of the best photo opportunities in the country because of the stunning backdrop of the Highlands that beautiful compliments the fort and the craggy outcroppings. Thus, Invergarry enjoys the best of both worlds and it proudly boasts this claim to the rest of the lovely but lacking towns that make up the rest of the Scottish Highlands.
