Other accommodation near Lanark

Lanark, which is called Lannraig in the Gaelic version of the Scottish language, is a small town that is located at the central belt in Scotland. Lanark has a population of about 9,000 people which makes it one of the 100 largest settlements in the entire area of Scotland. Lanark got its name from the meaning clear space, glade.

Lanark used to be a county town that was in the county of Lanarkshire, but is now in the South Lanarkshire district, and it has a long history which makes it a major tourist attraction.

Lanark is near various places - such as Glasgow or Edinburgh, which are just a train ride away, or you can take a car if you want to be mobile when visiting Lanark. Lanark is also surrounded by various villages, which makes it ideal for people who are interested in visiting the local surroundings, which include small and intimate locations, with lots of greenery and interesting places to visit. You will be able to stay and enjoy the hustle and bustle of modern living in Lanark, which includes theaters, cinemas, bars and other nightlife venues, but you will be able to relax in the countryside, and enjoy your vacation, and make the best out of it.

Lanark is famous for its long and extensive history, which has many remnants, such as the famous still standing gas lamp, which the locals call Provost's Lamp. Due to the long history of Lanark it has a lot of World Heritage sites and various other sites of historical significance, such as the Lanark Loch, which is a large boating lake which is near a golf course and racecourse that offers pony-trekking. There is also the Castlebank Park, which is near the former site where Lanark Castle stood in, and is near the Clyde river and Clyde Walkway.

Another point of interest includes the St. Nicholas' Parish Church, which stands at the bottom of the High street, near the gas lamp - which is situated on the same street. The church's bell is thought to have been constructed as early as 1110, which might make it one of the oldest of its kind in the world. The bell was moved from church to church, due to various circumstances, and now sits as part of the town of Lanark.

Lanark is also famous for the events and festivals that take place amongst it, which include the Lanark Lanimer Day, which consists of one major day, but the celebrations take an entire week during June, in which local schoolchildren from primary schools elect a queen as well as her court, and a lord, which serve during that day. The kids walk around the town with floats, along with the other residents and tourists, and they inspect the border stones, which is a ritual that is being kept alive.

Lanark is also famous for the local music scene, in which local and international bands played, in various clubs and locations in the area.
