Our Philosophy
We bought the hotel from the receivers in January 1998. With our previous experience and expertise in the Hotel & Catering Industry, we have transformed this once dead business into a thriving, family run countryside hotel. Our aim is to provide a hotel of exceptional value for money, in both levels of service and products offered, in this area of outstanding natural beauty. Serving both the tourist and business traveller, whether partaking in business or pleasure, sporting or leisure, we can accommodate each ones needs.
STAY - ENJOY - RETURN
Andrew & Jenny Cox

Our History
The hotel was built in the late 1800's and was originally an up market hotel for wealthy fishermen, stalkers and travellers. It was previously called "The Profeits Hotel" being built for the 2 nieces of Queen Victoria's doctor - Doctor Profeit. Nowadays, with the demand for en-suite accommodation, the rooms are smaller to accommodate bathrooms, however, it is still a popular destination for fishers, stalkers and tourists.

We bought the hotel in January 1998 from the receivers, after the hotel had gone bankrupt. With a challenge in front of us we set about restoring the hotel and the trade and the first thing we had to do was change the name. The hotel is now trading profitably and very popular with locals and tourists for the food now being served. The bedrooms are also busier and there is an ongoing plan to upgrade existing rooms and develop new ones.We recently won a local enterprise award for business development for our efforts in resurrecting the hotel from the ashes!!

Our Location
The hotel is surrounded by some of the most picturesque scenery Scotland has to offer, being located at the edge of the Highlands in the heart of Royal Deeside. With the Cairngorm Mountains in the distance and the flatter glens in between, the area is a must for walkers, golfers, skiers and tourists alike.

The Hotel backs onto the Muir of Dinnet Nature reserve which is well known for its natural beauty and wild life and makes excellent walking. An easy walk around Loch Kinord, from where the hotel gets its name, is a good way to spend half a day in the country. Some of the other local walks can be found under the activities section.South from the hotel is the famous River Dee which flows through the Royal Estate of Balmoral 10 miles up stream. Because of the Royal connection, the river is still a quite exclusive salmon fishing location. The hotel is situated in the tiny village of Dinnet which is located mid way between the villages of Ballater and Aboyne. Ballater is well known for its Royal customers, with many of the shops displaying Crests of various members of the Royal Family.

Aberdeen city is only 35 miles away, following the course of the River Dee to its mouth on Aberdeen's sea front. Aberdeen is well known for its oil links and is the "Oil Capital of Europe". Aberdeen, therefore, is quite a wealthy city and provides good shopping. Aberdeen is also referred to as "The Granite City" with most of the houses being built from granite stone excavated from a single quarry.

(Normal cruising height for jumbo jets is 33,000feet)

Walking
There is no finer walking country than Scotland. It offers you an endless variety of magnificent walks from mountains to glens, and lochs to the coast.Walkers are truly welcome in Scotland. Our enviable tradition of free, responsible access to the hills is supported by a growing network of easy to follow low-level walks for visitors who don't want to head for the heights but are happier visiting a castle, waterfall or wildlife reserve.

Munro Bagging
A Munro is a Scottish mountain above 3,000 ft or 914.4m. They take their collective name from Sir Hugh Munro who first published his tables in 1891, identifying around 280 peaks when the conventional wisdom had always been that there were probably only 30 mountains in Scotland above 3000ft.The Ordnance Survey, which now uses metres exclusively on its maps, has re-adjusted a number of peaks that fall on or about the 914m mark and the total of Munros now is generally set at 284.Mountain guides can be arranged from the hotel to lead walkers up these mountains - some of the Munros require specialist equipment and knowledge.

Cycling
The network of rural roads in Scotland's North-east makes ideal cycling territory and one of the best ways to experience some of Europe's finest scenery. Off road cycling is also excellent in this area and include former railway trackbeds (the old railway line from Dinnet to Ballater and back will make a good day out) as well as forest and mountain paths.Cycles are available at the hotel or can be rented with someone to guide you locally.

Nature
Birdwatchers and other wildlife enthusiasts have plenty to attract them in Deeside, with a wide choice of habitats from high mountains - good for spotting golden eagles and ptarmigan, right down to coastal locations with their gulls and waders. The Loch Kinord Hotel backs on to the famous Muir of Dinnet nature reserve, with its beautiful birch-woods offering an insight in to the diversity of Scotland's natural habitat.Sightings of leaping salmon, fishing ospreys and rutting red deer are virtually guaranteed, only a short distance from the hotel.

Skiing
Within 30 miles of the hotel there are two ski developments: Glenshee and The Lecht.Glensee stakes its claim as Scotland's most extensive ski area with more than 25 miles (40km) of downhill runs, reached by a scenic drive along the A93 south of Braemar, Scotland's highest main road. The Lecht is a much more compact centre, ideal for beginners and families, it also has a range of summer activities available.Instruction, equipment hire, refreshment facilities all operate in the skiing season, which varies from year to year but can be as early as December and as late as April.

Off Road Driving
It doesn't matter if you've never been off-road driving before, let alone off-road driving in Scotland - you could soon be powering up hair-raising inclines. There's no need to own a 4x4 vehicle either - there will normally be a choice of suitable off-roaders on offer (jeeps, Land Rovers etc.) and will also be able to cater for various skill levels, from off-road driving novice to 4x4 expert.
