Lower Collaton Farm is a traditional 16th century Devonshire farmhouse, comfortably furnished with peaceful views over rolling countryside down the valley of the river Gara. It is only six miles from the sea, Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. Dartmoor National Park is only a short drive away, and day trips to National Trust gardens and the Eden Project are easily undertaken.
There are numerous walks in the area, details of which we have available. Horse riding, fishing and bird watching are other popular local activities.
Here in the farmhouse James and Rosie Mussen have four delightful en-suite south facing bedrooms, (two twin, two double) available for Bed and Breakfast. The twin bedded Garden Bedroom is easily accessible on the ground floor, looking out on the walled garden lawn and colourful borders. From the bedrooms upstairs the pedigree Shetland sheep and their lambs can be seen grazing.
Breakfast is taken round a large mahogany table in what used to be the old dairy. Delicious free range eggs are produced by the chicken and ducks seen roaming in the courtyard. A continental or full hearty Devonshire breakfast with local produce is available together with toast from home baked bread and home made marmalade and jam. For those who fancy something different, try Dartmouth smoked haddock with a poached egg! |
For evening eating there is a fine selection of local pubs and restaurants, all with a well earned reputation for good cooking, and James and Rosie would be happy to advise you. A guest's sitting room with sofa, easy chairs, colour television and a selection of games, books and magazines is ready for those who prefer a quiet night in.Lower Collaton Farm is a no-smoking house, and our sheep, (who are very particular!) insist that dogs are not allowed. We have recently won a Silver Award from the South Hams Green Tourism Business Scheme.
Also available for self-catering at Lower Collaton are The Stables and The Old Granary, two beamy old barns, charmingly converted, sleeping four and two. They have both been awarded 4* by the English Tourist Council.
Our informative website gives full details of availability, places to see, and extensive panoramic photos of the properties, inside and out. |

How to Find Us! We are just off the A3122 Dartmouth road between Halwell and Blackawton.
From the M5 at Exeter and then the A38 follow signs to Plymouth (bear right just past Exeter). At Buckfastleigh take the A384 signposted Kingsbridge, Dartmouth & Salcombe. At Totnes turn right at the traffic lights onto the A381 signposted Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. At the village of Halwell turn left by the church and the Old Inn onto the A3122 signposted Dartmouth, and join the main road at the top of the hill. After just under one mile, turn right into small lane signposted "Collaton- no through traffic". We are about 350 yards on the left, behind a wooden gate.
