POSITION The antithesis of frenetic urban life, the Melvich Hotel is situated on Scotland's northern Seaboard, 18 miles West of Thurso on the A836 and 40 miles north of Helmsdale on the A897. A comfortable but informal Country Hotel with a Cliff Top position overlooking Melvich Bay to the Island of Hoy and the Orkney mainland beyond.
FACILITIES The Hotel has 14 en suite modern bedrooms. These are fully equipped with colour TV, coffee/ tea making facilities, radio alarms, and shower with WC. The lounge bar with its peat fire has wonderful views over the bay to Orkney. There is also a games rooms with a Pool Table, dart board & electronic games, adjacent to the Public Bar where you can experience true Highland Spirits!! The large garden allows guests to take in the breathtaking sight and sound of the surf from the bay. |

 | FOOD AND DRINK In our Lounge Bar we are particularly pleased with our selection of 100 Malt Whiskies together with our own Real Ales and extensive wine list. Our menus cover all tastes and budgets. A main course ranges from £8.00 to £15.00 and includes local game, Melvich Lobster, Caithness roast beef, steaks and traditional pub food. |
FAR NORTH BREWERY The hotel hosts the UK's most northerly brew-pub. This is probably also the country's smallest micro-brewery. The beers regularly produced range from Real Mackay (3.8%), Split Stone Pale Ale (4.2%), Fast Reactor (4.8%) and our premium offering Edge of Darkness (7.0%) only available on prescription due to its mind altering qualities! |  |

ACTIVITIES There are endless opportunities for walking, beautiful beaches in Melvich and Strathy, a links golf course only 10 minutes away in Reay, bird watching and Wildlife with a RSPB reserve at Forsinard (Golden Eagle, Osprey, Badgers, Otters, Wildcat and Red Deer). We are also fortunate to have occasional visits from Whales and Dolphins.

Day trips to Orkney from John O'Groats enable guests to have a comprehensive tour of the island covering Scapa Flow, Skara Brae, The Italian Chapel etc all in a day. Alternatively for those wishing to take their own car and stay on Orkney there is a Northlink Ferry from Scrabster & Pentland Ferries from Gills Bay

For those feeling energetic there is the challenge of our local Munros, Ben Loyal and Ben Hope.
Salmon fishing can be arranged on the nearby river Halladale and for trout on scores of hill lochs. Expert tuition is also available to make the most of the area's facilities. For the hunting fraternity we can arrange a variety of activities on nearby estates. |

Directions
From the south Melvich is best approached by the A9 from Inverness to Helmsdale and then by the A897 direct to Melvich.
