Mill House was discovered in a state of considerable neglect, in 1987, and converted into a relaxed, comfortable country hotel, still sitting in its wonderful, rural riverside setting, and in a style befitting its history. The imposing red brick building has retained many of the original features of its Georgian roots, yet has all the comforts you would expect of a modern hotel.
Fully equipped en suite bedrooms all look out over the garden to the river, and each faces the morning sun. The old, cast iron baking oven doors can still be seen in the lounge, the ceiling of which is supported by the original wooden beams designed for storing stacks of flour during its previous life. Where generations of millers and bakers have plied their trade, guests can now relax and enjoy old-world hospitality in the most tranquil of surroundings.
Bright and cheery in the summer, and with cosy fires in the winter, all the reception rooms look out into the garden, over the sweeping lawns and down to the Avon as it floows lazily by. The magnificent view changes only with the seasons, through the fragrant blossoms and fresh greens of spring to the golden tints and frosts of Autumn. Our menus reflect the availability of local produce, be it Harvington asparagus or pheasant, fish or free range eggs, game of all kinds, specialist cheeses or prize-winning saisages. So whether you choose to eat in The Chestnut Tree Bar or the more elaborate hotel restaurant, you will find dishes to suit all occasions and appetites. A separate menu offers a wide range of imaginative vegetarian dishes for those who prefer them. There are good wines too for every pocket and occasion - including many sold by the glass.
The restaurant, seating up to 60, is an ideal venue for anniversary luncheons and celebrations of all kinds, while The Library is available for smaller family gatherings and meetings of up to 16. Whether you choose to dine, you can be certain that the quality of cuisine and hospitality will be the same - high. And all within a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The warmth of the Georgian brick is matched inside the hotel by the warmth of its hospitality. You will find interested staff to whom it really matters that you enjoy yourself to the full. The hotel has been extended over the years, sensitively reflecting the feel of the original buildings, providing additional, exceptionally spacious bedrooms well away from the public areas. Still all overlooking the garden and the River Avon, these rooms combine space and facility with tradition and comfort, and are keenly sought for either short breaks or overnight stays.
