A stone built Scottish farmhouse of considerable character built in the 19th century, owned and run by Clare and Roger Coultherd.


Newton Of Nydie Farmhouse B+BNewton of Nydie is situated in a peaceful rural setting, surrounded by fields that graze cattle and grow wheat, barley, potatoes, carrots and grasses. Many species of wildlife can be seen - rabbits, pheasants, buzzards, kestrels, curlews and many more.

The farmhouse is spacious and comfortable with central heating. There is ample parking and attractive gardens and lawns.

Things To Do

Approximately 7 minutes by car the historic town of St Andrews offers many varied activities. Golf is the primary attraction with top class facilities nearby. The "Old Course" itself being the most famous golf course in the World.St Andrews and the "East Neuk of Fife" has lots to offer visitors with historic castles, a cathedral, the University of St Andrews being over 590 years old. The St Andrews Aquarium, East Sands Leisure Centre and swimming pool, and many interesting shops and lovely eating establishments with quality Scottish cuisine.
There is also horse riding, freshwater or sea angling. Fife has lovely clean beaches and attractive fishing villages. A short walk from the farmhouse and you are in the village of Strathkinness with the Tavern Pub offering good food at very reasonable prices. There is also a village shop and Post Office.
Within easy reach of Edinburgh and Perthshire and slightly further a field the Highlands of Scotland you will be ideally situated to see some of Scotland's finest attractions.


Historical Note

In the 1300's the proprietor of Newton of Nydie granted a charter to the monks of Balmerino to quarry stone and to have it transported for the purpose of building the famous "Balmerino Abbey" which lies on the South bank of the river Tay. The stone was also used for a number of fine buildings in St. Andrews. The last stone quarried on the site was used to build the first hanger at the nearby Royal Air Force station at "Leuchars."


How To Find Newton of Nydie

By Train

Alight at Leuchars Station on the main east coast Edinburgh to Aberdeen line. From there, Strathkinness is a ten minute ride by car. Taxis are always available at the station.

By Car

From the south, turn off the M90 on to the A91 and follow the signs for St Andrews. On leaving Guardbridge heading for St Andrews, take the first right signposted for Strathkinness. Immediately on entering Strathkinness take the first right. Travel west for approximately 1/2 a mile until you reach the signpost for "Newton of Nydie Bed and Breakfast." Turn right and follow the lane for approximately 1 mile, right to the bottom.

Alternatively, turn off the M90 on to the A92, turning right on to the A91 for St Andrews. On leaving Guardbridge heading for St Andrews, take the first right signposted for Strathkinness. Immediately on entering Strathkinness take the first right. Travel west for approximately 1/2 a mile until you reach the signpost for "Newton of Nydie Bed and Breakfast." Turn right and follow the lane for approximately 1 mile, right to the bottom.

From the north, cross the Tay Bridge and follow the A914 and signs for St Andrews. On leaving Guardbridge heading for St Andrews, take the first right signposted for Strathkinness. Immediately on entering Strathkinness take the first right. Travel west for approximately 1/2 a mile until you reach the signpost for "Newton of Nydie Bed and Breakfast". Turn right and follow the lane for approximately 1 mile, right to the bottom.

By Air

The nearest international airport is at Edinburgh, which is about one hour from Strathkinness by car.
