Other accommodation near Nottingham
Nottingham in Nottinghamshire has a population of just over 225000 while the urban area in total has over 600000 inhabitants. Nottingham is mainly famous for its association with Robin Hood, but because Nottingham was of an extremely high standard during the industrial revolution (because of its lace and bicycle factories) it has a lot more to offer then other places in the UK when it comes to noticeable architecture.
Because of its location in the East midlands it is easy to travel to and from Nottingham to places like Leeds, Birmingham Cardiff and of course London. The nearby international airport is serviced by low fares airlines as well as major transatlantic routes. Birmingham International Airport and Robin Hood Airport Doncaster/Sheffield are all within easy commuting distance as well.
The centre of Nottingham is dominated by the Old Market Square. This was once upon a time the largest square in the UK. One immediately notices the Council House which was built in the 1920's to show off the wealth and used impressive baroque features. There is a high end shopping mall located on the first floor with exquisite boutiques. If you come to see some great sites and the proclaimed smallest cinema in the world with just 21 seats, then you should go into the Hockney area of town. You will also be able to see the Broadway cinema which was home to the premiere of the UK release of Reservoir Dogs by Quentin Tarrantino. You will find the lace market just south of here where the heart of the industry was during the industrial revolution. The Albert Hall and the Nottingham Playhouse are other sites you should take in. Sherwood Forest and Nottingham Castle can be found just outside of Nottingham itself and they have cemented their place in history of course because of the legend of Robin Hood. There is also a Robin Hood marathon every year which actually is only half a marathon and a fun run taking in all of Nottingham's interesting sites.
