A warm welcome and a high standard of comfort await you at our Edwardian country home. In an elevated position and located within an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', Oaklands is blessed with stunning uninterrupted views to the sea and over the surrounding countryside, and yet is only just over a mile from Rye. An ideal base for exploring this beautiful part of England, where there are wonderful gardens, castles and historic homes open to the public, the 1066 Way for walkers, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, and within easy reach of Ashford International Railway Station, and Channel Ports - Oaklands is the perfect place to stop over on the way to or from Europe. In Rye many of the medieval, Tudor and Georgian buildings offer rest and refreshments to the modern traveller in the guise of pubs, restaurants, and tearooms. Visit the Museum, art galleries, antique shops, and potteries. Christmas shopping in Rye can be more fun than in large cities.Well known authors and artists have lived and been inspired in Rye, E.F. Benson (of Mapp and Lucia fame), Henry James, Joseph Conrad, HG Wells, GK Chesterton, John Nash and Whistler to name a few. For nature lovers Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has an Information Centre, network of footpaths to explore and bird watching hides All of our bedrooms have a private shower, washbasin, WC and shaver point en-suite and enjoy lovely views. They are furnished for guests' comfort and have television, a small fridge, hospitality tray with fresh fruit and biscuits, hairdryer and radio alarm clock
Winchelsea Looks out to the English Channel and across the countryside toward the ancient hilltop town of Winchelsea. The room has a five foot four poster bed and is decorated with shades of the medieval but, like all of our rooms, is definitely twenty first century when it comes to comfort.
	Rye A twin-bedded or luxurious double dual aspect room looking towards Winchelsea and the sea, the room also enjoys superb views over Rye town.
Tillingham This room also has a five foot four poster bed and is, again, dual aspect looking toward Rye and over the Tillingham Valley.
Oaklands is set within the seclusion of its own large garden, which is surrounded by fields and open countryside. There are several spots around the garden where guests can relax in the peace and quiet of the countryside or, for the more energetic, a game of croquet might appeal. There is a barbecue area that guests are welcome to use and we will be happy to loan utensils, plates etc at a nominal charge. We are a No-Smoking House. We are not licensed, but guests are welcome to bring their own wine to enjoy in their room or in the garden.If you are having a special celebration and would like us to provide a special touch, eg Chocolates, Flowers or Champagne etc, please let us know and we will arrange this for you at cost. How to Find us By Road: From Rye, take the B2089 to Udimore, Broad Oak and Battle. Continue on this road until you enter open countryside. The drive to Oaklands will be found in about 1.3 miles set off the road on your right, just past the Fire Beacon. From the crossroads at Broad Oak, proceed in an easterly direction on the B2089 towards Rye for just over 5 miles and the drive to Oaklands will be found on the left. By train: There are services from London to Rye via Hastings or via Ashford. From Gatwick airport to Rye via Hastings.
