Oldham started as a part of Lancashire and it slowly developed during the 19th Century and started becoming what it is nowadays. During the 19th Century Oldham was a textile center which was a big part of the booming of the town, and it made it an important place during the industrial revolution. Oldham is famous for being one of the first industrialized towns, and it soon became the most important center for cotton and textile in the entire area of England. Oldham is also famous for being the most productive cotton spinning town in the entire world, since it produced more cotton than the entire country of France and the entire country of Germany combined. But the town has seen a decline during the middle of the 20th Century and it hurt the local economy, which largely relied on the textile industry and the income it generated.

Oldham has about 100,000 people living in it, and is a small but vast town, that is situated around about 26 square miles, or 67 square kilometers. While in Oldham you might be interested in visiting the local attractions and points of interest, which include the Old Town Hall, which is a Grade II building that is styled in the Georgian neo-classical town hall, and was built as early as the year 1841. About eight years later Oldham became a borough.

Another point of interest in Oldham, which you can visit while visiting the town, is the war memorial that is located in the town, that was erected as a memorial for the men from Oldham who gave their lives during the first World War. The war memorial consists of a granite base and a bronze sculpture that depicts five soldiers that walk along the trenches into battle. Another point of interest is the local parish church, that is called the Oldham Parish Church of St. Mary with St. Peter, and is from around the year 1830, and it still stands to this day.
