The Oyster Inn is a very comfortable relaxing informal hotel at Connel, 5 miles from Oban in an area of outstanding natural beauty with breathtaking scenery. Recently refurbished the hotel offers a very high level of accommodation at affordable rates.
The Ferryman's bar is perfect for that well earned drink before going through to the Oyster Inn restaurant which has impressive views over Loch Etive, to Mull, Lismore and Morven. A great escape to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in a friendly warm comfortable setting. If the landscape does not take your breath away, the hospitality will!
The Oyster Inn overlooks the Falls of Lora where whirlpools and spectacular white water flows at the ebb and flood tides. The hotel also enjoys magnificent views to the mountains of Movern and Mull and is strategically placed for visiting Argyll's main attractions. It was built originally in the 18th century to serve ferry passengers but the ferry has since been made redundant by the modern road bridge alongside the cantilever railway bridge of 1903.

The present castle dates from c. 1250 when it was built for the great house of Ergadia. Both Alexander de Ergadia and his son John of Lorn were bitterly hostile to Robert I who finally defeated them and took over Dunstaffnage Castle in 1308. Robert placed Sir Arthur Campbell as Constable.
The castle was destroyed by fire in 1810 and remains a ruin today.
The Castle once contained the Lia Fail or Stone of Destiny. The stone was removed in 850. The stone spent some time at Westminster Abbey from 1296 but was returned to Scotland on St Andrew’s Day 30th November 1996 and can now be seen at Edinburgh Castle.
Ben Cruachan is the closest munro to Connel and it is well worth the effort to climb. It has great views looking west over Oban and out to Mull beyond. The group of hills actually consists of 4 munros which are , Ben Cruachan ( meaning Conical hill ) and Stob Diamb ( peak of the stag )
The Falls of Lora
The Falls of Lora at Connel Ferry Bridge is a natural phenomenon with the narrow 200 yard bottleneck entrance to the loch creating strong currents as the tide rises and falls four times a day, twice in each direction.
The fall is some four to five feet when the flood of water rages through and creates unique sport for canoeists and divers who regularly visit for the thrill and spectacle.
