Lesley and John Honnor own this delightful house, signed off the A17, in Saracens Head, a small village in the heart of theLincolnshire Fens, 2 miles N.W. of Holbeach.
The existing building dates from about 1730 and retains much original character. But the site is even older and once housed a Cistercian grange, an outpost of Pipwell abbey whose monks reclaimed land from the sea in the 13th century.
In April there is a sea of yellow with acre upon acre of daffodils. the peace, the sea marshes and the solitude are here all year round. Come and ride the bikes, watch the birds and follow the miniature railway around the large gardens.
Nearby are the market towns of Spalding and Wisbech and the ports of Boston and Kings Lynn, each with it's own character. A little further afield are the cathedral cities of Ely, Lincoln and Peterborough and the splendours of Stamford and Burghley house.
Lesley provides bed and breakfast accommodation in an attractive country house lovingly decorated in soft creams, blues and greens; each room with it's own character instantly inviting and relaxing.
Guests are greeted with tea and home-made cakes in a thoroughly comfortable sitting room with masses of books and magazines and a log fire in winter. Breakfast, which includes new laid eggs, home-made preserves and fruit compotes is enjoyed around a large convivial table.
Four exceptionally pretty bedrooms are carefully thought out with super comfortable bedding, country furniture and lots of extras.
There are extensive gardens and a conservatory where guests are welcome to sit and relax. Ample off street parking and a cycle lock-up are provided and bikes are available free of charge for guests use on the quiet, flat lanes.
There is a varied selection of local pubs and restaurants for evening meals and Lesley will be pleased to advise you. |
Pipwell Manor is a lovely place to stay.
Turn off the A17 at Saracens Head (brown signs) into Washway Road. Go past the telephone box, pub and garage, round the bend and Pipwell Manor is the next on the left.
