With a population of over forty thousand, Ramsgate is definitely one of the most well-known seaside resort towns in England. It is also one of the most prestigious, having been considered one of the greatest port towns as far back as the 1800s. Tourists flock in droves to this lovely town in order to lie on its sandy and gorgeous beaches and even more people come to the city to work in the fishing trade. After all, Ramsgate has one of the largest marinas in England and Port Ramsgate has been one of the busiest ferry providers in the country for centuries!
Ramsgate is clearly no flash in the pan when it comes to seaside splendor. The town has had an active fishing industry as far back as the 1200s although the famous Ramsgate Harbour wasn't fully operational until the middle of the 1800s. All the same, the sea and the coast beat in the heart of every resident of Ramsgate and many of the tourists not only fall in love with the land but with the citizens of the town as well. The beach in Ramsgate is second to few locations in the U.K. and the Ramsgate Sands is easily the most notable location along the coastline. This spot of beach frequently wins England's Blue Flag Award, which rewards towns for the cleanliness and beauty of their natural features. The famed nightlife location, Ramsgate Pleasure Park, has been operational for years but is recently undergoing a major renovation to ensure that it maintains its status as one of the most entertaining spots in Kent. If you visit at the right time you can even see the beloved Ramsgate Grand Prix. This event is a white knuckle boat race that takes place right in the Harbor and regularly draws throngs of adoring fans. No matter what time of year you visit Ramsgate, though, you can be sure that you'll have the time of your life and an experience that you will never forget.
