Other accommodation near Rhayader

The busy and bustling burg of Rhayader is easily among the most desirable locations in Wales for both living and visiting. As the first town on the banks of the historic and beautiful River Wye, it can be considered as something of a gateway to the rest of Powys and Mid Wales and it wouldn't be too bold of a statement to say that it commands more attention than anywhere else in its surrounding area. For one, Rhayader is only a few miles from the famed Cambrian Mountains. These massive, magnificent mounds run all throughout Wales and are among the most stunning natural features in the entire nation. The very popular Brecon Beacons, a longtime favorite destination for tourists, are part of the Cambrians as is the Snowdonia Range. Many of these mountains reach or exceed over three thousand feet in height and as such are incredibly popular with vacationers. In addition, the rocks in these mountains are of particular note to both geologists and historians because of their unique features in some cases and advanced age in other cases. Snowdonia is particularly famous for its many volcanic rocks and hikers often make the smart decision to bring a rock home to show to their friends.

Not surprisingly, Rhayader is a popular destination for hikers as well as scholars because it offers such a great access point to this stunning mountain range. After all, it is one of the few modern and inviting locations in Powys and the smaller villages around Rhayader often come to town to stock up on the essentials. This is perhaps the best aspect of the city: It is surrounded by all this natural beauty but it still allows its residents to live a fully advanced and comfortable life because of its big-city amenities. One needn't leave Rhayader to see amazing sights, however. The fact of the matter is that Rhayader is often considered to be the oldest town in Mid Wales and thus it is the perfect place to go to learn about the occupation of Wales before civilization truly took hold. There are many standing stones and cairns (both well-known trademarks of the ancient Celtic people that once inhabited much of this area) to be found in town and plenty of information to help people on holiday glean a better knowledge of their ancestors. Even in the days of the Roman Empire Rhayader was a much desired place to stop for soldiers who were trying desperately to maintain order as the nation was crumbling all around. The combination of fascinating history and beautiful locales isn't very uncommon in Wales or the United Kingdom as a whole since so many fantastic cities can be found on this lovely continent. What isn't so ordinary, and what should be held up with the highest esteem, is the fact that Rhayader manages to be both historically relevant and viscerally appealing but still is able to offer its citizens the modern-day amenities that are all to rare in towns that have both history and beauty. Most of these locations are rural and many of these so-called towns are actually hamlets at best. As such, Rhayader is the premier destination in Mid Wales for anybody who happens to be on holiday in the area.
