Richmond that is located in North Yorkshire is considered both a market town as well as a civil parish that is located near the Swale river in England, and is the administration center to the Richmondshire district. Richmond is located in the edge of the Yorkshire Dales national park and is a very popular tourist attraction, and has a population of about 9,000 people total.
If you intent to visit Richmond with your family and friends, or even by yourself, you need to know what the town has to offer. The landmarks that the town boasts having include the Richmond castle which is located in the center of the town and it overlooks the Swale river and is a major local tourist attraction.
The castle has seen its fair share of lords and constables staying in it.
While in Richmond you might also want to visit the Green Howards Regimental Museum which is located in the old Trinity church which is located in the center of the town' market place. You can also go visit the Richmondshire Museum, or if you prefer to soak in some of the art that the locals have to offer, you can go and watch a play at the Georgian theatre which was established way back in 1788 by Samuel Butler who was an actor. That theatre is established in a place that is very close to the town's market place. That theatre had to close down way back in the year 1848 due to a decline in the visitors and income, but the theatre was restored and reopened way back in the year 1963.
To the re-opened theatre a museum was opened way back in 1979 and has become known as the Georgian Theatre Royal just recently in 2003 which led to it being extended with an extra block, next to the original auditorium.
Richmond has also been the shooting place where a lot of familiar TV shows and movies filmed in, and those famous TV shows and movies include Century Falls, The Fast Show, Earthfasts and many more.
If you are worried about transportation into and around Richmond, you have several choices. You can use the Richmond Railway Station which operates from a stone terminus and is built in a Tudor/Elizabethan style it opened way back in 1846 but had to close down during 1968, but was recently re-opened.
There are also regular bus services in the town , as well as regular bus services that take people to nearby towns and villages which include Northallerton and the Barnard Castle.
Richmond is also very famous for a local legend that is celebrated each year, in which soldiers allegedly found a secret entrance into the castle keep, but it was too small for them to use it so they sent a drummer boy into it, which drummed so that the soldiers could track his advance from above, but the drumming suddenly stopped after about three miles, and it is believed that the drummer boy got stuck there and died.
