YORK
Journey to York and experience the varied richnessof this historical city. The varied attractions include the award winningJorvik centre, the famous Minster and the Castle Museum. There are also two theatres featuring many celebrities, orsimply a stroll through the quaint old streets, with their black and white houses, The Shambles, Petergate and Stonegate.

CASTLE HOWARD
No visit to the North Yorkshire Moors would be complete without a visit to the famous Castle Howard, featured in Brideshead Revisited and more recently The Buccaneers. Not to be missed - a walk around the lake and a visit tot he Garden Centre.

SCARBOROUGH AND BRIDLINGTON
Know as the Golden Coast, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington are some of the oldest resorts in Britain. In Scarborough you can still visit the Spa although it is no longer recommended to "take" the water! The Sealife Centre and the Millennium are worth exploring.

NYM RAILWAY AND PICKERING
Journey back in time on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Trains depart for Grosmont throughout the day and you can leave the train at any of the stations to further enjoy the beauty of the Moorland scenery. Special walking excursions are organised from Newtondale Halt - accessible only from the train - and special weekend events are organised throughout the year, including War Time memories and Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. On your return to Pickering, why not explore the Beck Isle Museum, which has fine examples of agricultural implements and life on the North Yorkshire Moors. Pickering Castle is a well preserved, recently renovated piece of Norman Architecture, complete with ghost - the lady Rosamund!

ROBIN HOOD'S BAY, WHITBY, RUNSWICK BAY AND STAITHES
Follow the Dracula trail to historic Whitby - The magnificent Abbey dominates the southern cliff top, overlooking the harbour. Captain Cook set sail from Whitby on the Endeavour and there is a small museum in Pannet Park which celebrated the Town's connections with both captain Cook and Whaling. Why not make the return journey to Pickering via Goathland (Heartbeat village) and over the moors to Rosedale. The scenery is breathtaking, especially in the late August when the heather is in full bloom.

EDEN CAMP AND FLAMINGO LAND
Approximately 8 miles to the south lies Eden Camp a converted POW camp, which is now a museum. This is an award winning tourist attraction and features sounds and smells as well as sights. Finally for the adventurous, Flamingo Land boasts some of the most exciting "rides" in Britain. The small zoo is a gentler attraction for the less daring!
